Industrial buyer
OVERVIEW
Reporting to the finance manager, the buyer is responsible for purchasing equipment, parts, supplies and services for the planning, scheduling, maintenance and repair of a pulp and paper mill in order to optimize production efficiency and reduce downtime during repairs and shutdown.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Sending out quotes, price negotiating, purchase orders, work order modifications, etc.
- Buy coded inventory items
- Purchase parts, equipment, supplies and services for the mill and rolling stock
- Conduct required reporting with various departments on current inventories
- Coordinate with other buyers throughout the organization to source parts
- Maintain inventory stores
- Develop a rapport with suppliers, meet with and discuss our issues, opportunities.
- Document, arrange and follow up to ensure timely shipping and receiving of repair parts
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must have:
- Minimum 3 to 5 years purchasing experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting
- Possess a good safety record.
- Recent Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) training (an asset).
- Experience in effective communications, multitasking, priority setting and organizational skills
- Proficient with software such as JDE, Salesforce, MS Office, Excel would be beneficial
- Demonstrated experience in negotiations, conflict management and logistics
- Bilingual, English and French, oral and written
- An undergraduate degree or equivalent in business, supply chain, engineering or related field
- Warehouse/parts and inventory management and supervision experience
The Successful Candidate will be required to participate in a background check, medical evaluation and personality assessment.
