Job Description
Materials Handler I


The Materials Handler I position, under general supervision, is responsible for transporting materials to various areas inside and outside the facility using powered fork lift truck. Additional responsibilities include controlling material movement, load and unload trucks or freight vehicles, transport material between departments, picking orders, taking inventory, shipping and receiving.

Performance Expectations


  • Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements in the facility’s geographic location and:
  • Load, unload and move products and materials by hand or using basic material handling equipment.
  • ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Estimate weight of products on pallets.
  • Operate a tow motor in a safe manner, both loading and unloading freight.
  • Perform other material handling activities such as counting, weighing, sorting, packing and unpacking.
  • Perform tow motor inspection.
  • Keep all manufacturing and shipping and receiving areas organized.
  • Operate winches and other loading devices to load and unload materials onto and off trucks.
  • Complete all shipping and receiving documentation.
  • Empty chip bins into proper containers.
  • ISO 14001: Environmental Management system standard.
  • May perform other activities, such as opening containers and crates, filling warehouse orders, assisting in taking inventory and weighing and checking materials.


Credentials


  • Able to use computer-operated machinery.
  • Familiar with IFS and shipping documentation considered an asset.
  • Ability to measure length, width and height of a truck trailer and length, width and height of filled pallets.
  • Licensed to operate a tow motor and propane forklift, reach truck experience.
  • TDG training and coordinates parts on the paint line.

  • Possess excellent communication skills in order to interact with suppliers and department personnel.
  • Ability to work with a partner and independently as needed.
  • Possess time management skills and able to prioritize assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to refer to assembly drawings to perform minor machine repairs or to assemble pieces.
