Job Summary


Dalhousie Medical School attracts some of Canada’s top students, physicians, and health researchers. With campuses in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Saint John, New Brunswick, and over 100 teaching sites across the Maritimes, we provide aspiring doctors and health researchers with the highest caliber of education. Reporting to the Director, Medical Research Development Office ( MRDO ), the Manager, Research and Infrastructure Support will provide leadership to initiate, implement and manage programs that support and enhance research success in the Faculty of Medicine.


Key Responsibilities


  • Provide leadership and support as well as day-to-day oversight for all CORES staff, including orientation, training, evaluation, and professional development support.
  • Oversee the development and revision of standard operating procedures and terms of reference for each facility with user group consultation. Organize user committees to address operational issues. Provide leadership and support to staff, and respond to support issues raised by faculty and students.
  • Develop, facilitate and manage special projects including project work plans and schedules. Proactively liaise with and provide progress reports to key stakeholders.
  • Lead communications and outreach for Centralized Operations of Research Equipment and Supports ( CORES ). Recognize and pursue opportunities to market the facilities to internal and external users and for fundraising initiatives. Lead the submission of research-related nominations to various local, national and international agencies.
  • Oversee financial management, including the support and maintenance of central billing, budget development and monitoring, and preparing financial projections for core facility stakeholders. Develop and implement processes related to research funding.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with researcher-related faculty and staff both within and beyond Dalhousie. Provide leadership and support to researchers, including proposal development and support. Produce activity reviews as well as regular reports for strategic planning.


Note


The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.


Required Qualifications


  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field plus approximately five to seven years of relevant experience in a post-secondary or health-care setting, dealing with the management of research issues, including human resource and financial management (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Proven organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Prior experience managing staff.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering research educational materials, workshops and seminars.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian granting system as it pertains to biomedical and health research.
  • Experience in research administration or a related environment.


Assets


  • Experience in managing projects and communications.
  • Masters degree in relevant field
  • Experience with infrastructure programs, faculty awards and nominations, and/or research application processes, including proposal/budget development and support.
