About Just be Woodsy
Just be Woodsy is a call to action to celebrate and make better use of the trees being cut down in the city of Toronto and elsewhere. We focus on taking logs that the city of Toronto cuts down due to their downtown forestry operations and make furniture and other items from this incredible resource. We are a small socio-environmental company that is aiming to grow and make an impact. By building efficient, user-friendly and innovative systems, we aim to connect Torontonians with the urban forest and improve our relationship with nature.
In January 2024, we will be moving from our studio at 772 Warden Avenue to 55 Milne Avenue, a 10,000 square foot facility, where we will look to scale our business. Currently, we have a truck for retrieving logs, a mill for cutting lumber, a radio frequency vacuum kiln to dry wood, and a full wood studio for fabricating furniture and other items.

This role is designed to lead Woodsy’s Maker team while also joining in on the making of projects. Specifically, the role will be to manage and oversee the roster of projects the studio has on the go, ensuring that they are done efficiently, to specification and with a high degree of quality. Reporting directly to the team lead - Robert. This role will also be part of converting designs into production plans in collaboration with Robert.
Additionally, overseeing equipment maintenance and ensuring the fabrication floor is well maintained and looked after is key.
Qualifications
Just be Woodsy requires someone with a positive attitude, with attention to detail and eye for quality. This role will also require the use of google sheets, so strong interest in and skills for data acquisition, organization, manipulation and architecture are very important. Working as a manager of people is central to this role, so experience in managing people, personalities, holding people accountable, maintaining a high standard for work ethic while also being approachable and understanding is key. Additionally, a very strong grounding in woodworking and woodworking skills will be vital.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicating with makers and ensuring tracking, observations and learnings of projects are being captured on our worksheets. This is done on a daily basis.
- Ensuring inventory is kept updated.
- Converting designs/quotes to production plans
- Ensuring the equipment is maintained
- Ensuring the projects are done efficiently and to a high standard
- Ensuring the production space is tidy and organized.
- Communicating and assigning plans to a roster of makers
- Doing efficient, high quality work yourself as a maker
Requirements
- Proficient at google sheets or excel
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Ability to work with a team and guide them as a leader
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities

35 hrs per week @ $25/hr
