We are a non-profit foundation investing in habitat conservation projects across BC with an opening for a full-time Manager of Biology. We are seeking an individual who is energetic, self-directed, and has a positive approach to their career, their work and their colleagues.
The Manager of Biology leads our Biology Team. This position oversees all of HCTF’s granting programs, and supervises the team that administers and implements program operations. They ensure that programs meet HCTF’s strategic objectives to improve the conservation outcomes of BC’s fish and wildlife and their habitats. The position reports to the CEO and works out of our Victoria office, with the option for a hybrid work schedule.

Key Activities
- Provides leadership for the Biology department and oversight of all conservation grant programs, including coordinating proposal application intake, managing Technical Review Committee meetings and assuring the technical review, assessment and decision processes are fair, transparent and meet the highest professional standards.
- Acts as the departmental lead for grant management and reporting, including oversight and approvals of annual grant reports, funding conditions, project change requests and extensions.
- Manages the monitoring and evaluation of funded projects and programs to assure ongoing technical soundness and achievement of objectives.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with a broad range of individuals internally and externally and with partners.
- Manages contracts for external experts to assist with technical reviews, evaluations or other program needs.
- Functions as the Foundation’s biological sciences specialist including research and analysis on specific conservation topics as required.
- Contributes to implementation of organizational Strategic goals and develops new policies and procedures in relation to conservation grants.
Overview of Qualifications
- This job requires significant progressive experience as well as demonstrated success with fisheries, wildlife, and/or habitat management
- A Masters degree in biology, zoology conservation science, natural resources, or a related discipline, or a Bachelor’s degree with a suitable combination of education, training and work experience that would equate to the advanced degree.
- A Registered Professional Biologist in BC (registered with the College of Applied Biologists or eligible to register with the College).
