The Manager, Safety Investigation manages the regular activities related to the safety investigations. He ensures the investigations are performed as per the established processes with independancy and no bias. He leads and supports the team of Safety Officers.


Main responsibilities


  • Participates in the preparation of the TSC Impact.
  • Leads the team of Safety Officers and oversees the performance of their duties. Ensures the quality of the documentation, the timeliness of the investigation and the adequacy of the internal communication. Set the priorities.
  • Performes and participates in some investigations, to his discretion or at the request of the Director, Flight Safety, particularly when the risk is assessed to high.
  • Oversees the day-to-day management of the investigations, analysis and identification of the cause of all hazards, incidents and accidents identified under the safety management system;
  • Assures close liaison with Transport Canada, Transportation Safety Board, industry, safety associations, aircraft manufacturers and other relevant external entities.
  • Chairs the Safety Team Meetings.
  • Participates in the Safety Action Groups (SAG) meetings.
  • Ensures development, standardization and continuous improvement of the investigation techniques. Coaches and trains the Safety Officers in the use of the appropriate techniques.
  • Recommends actions to improve safety performance and monitors the results of the corrective actions.
  • Assists the Director, Flight Safety, as necessary.
  • Supports the Safety Officers with their safety recommendations and follow-up.


Qualifications


  • Years of experience: 7-10 years in an aviation-related field;
  • Pilot licence or Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) is an asset;
  • Language qualifications: bilingual (French and English), oral and written.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organization skills, diplomacy, tact, impartiality;
  • Experience in aviation investigation;
  • College diploma or university degree in a related field;


Additional Information


Delegation of authority in case of short -long terme absence;


In case of temporary absence, the responsibilities of the Manager, Safety Investigations will be delegated to an alternate and qualified person, as designated in conjunction with the Director, Flight Safety.
