Job Description
Are you an experienced lawyer with expertise in privacy or administrative law? WorkSafeBC's Law & Policy division is seeking a lawyer who will be responsible for the implementation, ongoing assessment and updating of our privacy management program to ensure it remains current with best practices and legal requirements.


In this role, you'll ensure WorkSafeBC's compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the effective delivery of quality, customer-focused services to our clients.

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.


In this role, your work location will be our Richmond office. We have a hybrid approach to work, which means you have the option to work from home on the schedule determined by WorkSafeBC.


As Manager, Access To Information And Privacy You Will


  • Provide expert policy advice regarding WorkSafeBC's duties under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act ("FIPPA")
  • Implement and continuously update WorkSafeBC's privacy management program, including maintaining FIPPA compliance policies, privacy breach protocols, and procedures, and developing and delivering corporate-wide training programs
  • Work with internal departments, including the Information Technology department to ensure that data collection, protection, storage, and disclosure complies with FIPPA
  • Perform assessments with regard to WorkSafeBC's compliance with FIPPA and its privacy management program, including privacy impact assessments and business compliance reviews
  • Act as a contact and liaison with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC)

  • Bring a client-focused, service-oriented approach
  • Interact in a confident, professional and objective manner, and maintain collaborative relationships
  • Create a supportive work environment in the department by ensuring effective communication and promoting teamwork
Your background and experience


  • Management experience is an asset
  • A minimum of four years of experience in a privacy or access to information-related role
  • A member of good standing with the Law Society of BC
  • Recent experience in privacy law or administrative law
