Job Title:Maintenance Mechanic
Reports to:Supervisor, Maintenance and Operations -Water Treatment Plant
Department:Water Treatment Plant
Location:1230 Water St, Peterborough
Rate:$30.65 – $38.18 per hour, Pending Job Evaluation
Position Overview
The Maintenance Mechanic is a key position for the team who will maintain, install and repair equipment and associated Water Treatment Plant, storage, pumping, and generating facilities.
Accountabilities
- Installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical/electrical equipment used at the Water Treatment Plant, reservoirs, pumping stations and generating stations.
- Variety of maintenance and construction work at the Water Treatment Plant, Generating Station and other water facilities.
- Perform routine corrective, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, scheduled maintenance, installation, and repairs in compliance with the maintenance protocols. Equipment and system improvements and maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic equipment.
- Updating and maintaining asset management data in a computerized maintenance management system for managing maintenance history of facilities and equipment.
- Co-ordinate preventive maintenance and job planning documents.
- Effectively create, maintain and close work orders utilizing the maintenance management system.
- Analyse asset condition data and interpret historic performance information to establish predictive maintenance plans.
- Operates a hydraulic log lifter to remove or replace logs.
- Assists in the development of operating and maintenance procedures.
- Perform restricted/confined space entry at various WTP facilities to perform routine inspection, and maintenance.11.
- Performs administrative functions such as, timekeeping, materials support, cost monitoring, and quality control/quality assurance.
- Oversee third party contractors as required.
- Operation of various tools and safety equipment to perform all duties of the position.
- Trades responsibilities as per Practice H24-05.
- A personal commitment to continuing education.
- Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others who are dependent upon their actions; Report hazards and unsafe acts or conditions encountered on the job to fellow workers and supervisors.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Continually review and keep abreast of pertinent legislation including:
- Z462, Workplace Electrical Safety
- Electrical Safety Authority (ESA)
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
- Electrical Utility Safety Association (EUSA) and
- Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA)
- Ministry of Natural Resources (Lakes & Rivers Improvement Act) (LRIA)
Education
Advanced (College Diploma, or Trade Certificate of Qualification) discipline
Experience:
Graduate of 2 or 3 year Community college program or equivalent experience, valid Millwright certification considered an asset.
A minimum of five (5) years of related work experience in a water treatment plant manufacturing/process plant or generating station or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a skilled maintenance role required.
Skills (Technical Skills):
- Demonstrated experienced in a variety of mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks
- Able to work alone and with minimum supervision and in a team environment.
- Previous experience in a unionized environment with the ability to motivate, lead, work co-operatively and promote a professional multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated experience in installation and maintenance of mechanical equipment found in a water treatment plant.
- Demonstrated experience with preventive maintenance concepts and methods and maintenance planning.
- Knowledge of safety requirements associated with the work including Arc Flash and FR clothing, and job safety planning.
- Working knowledge and experience using MSOffice Suite application.
- Demonstrated excellent attendance record.
- Valid Class G driver's license and excellent driving record.
- Demonstrated excellent safety record and safe-working attitude.
- A personal commitment to continuing education and advancement.
- Demonstrated commitment to high ethical standards.
- Ability to meet the Physical Demands Analysis.
- Successful completion and obtained certification or license on the following courses:
- Lock Out & Tag Out; and
- Fall Arrest
- Working at Heights
- Confined Space
- First Aid, C.P.R., and A.E.D.
- WHMIS
