Job Description
Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a three-year term faculty member position (with potential for renewal) in Large Animal Medicine at the rank of lecturer in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences. This position will have a 75% clinical commitment and its primary focus will be clinical teaching of undergraduate and graduate veterinarians. Other duties will include didactic and laboratory teaching in the veterinary program. This individual will have obtained certification through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and have a passion for both primary care and referral cases. This individual will be able to practice in an in-house setting and be willing to provide ambulatory service. The successful applicant must be able to communicate effectively, work collegially, and collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds.


The WCVM is western Canada’s regional college of veterinary medicine. It is part of a comprehensive academic health sciences group on the university campus, with access to facilities including the PET-CT, Canadian Light Source and the Biomedical Beamline and Saskatchewan Centre for Cyclotron Sciences. The Veterinary Medical Centre at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine is a state-of-the-art facility serving western Canada as an AVMA and AAHA accredited hospital and referral centre. The advanced imaging equipment includes a 320 detector row Toshiba Aquilion One CT scanner, Millennium MPR/MPS Gamma Camera with Genie AcQ software, Philips BV Pulsera C-arm Fluoroscope, 2 Toshiba Aplio 300, 4 Sound DR systems. MRI technology includes in-house Siemens Harmony 1.5 Tesla MRI and standing equine MRI in the Ryan-Dube Equine Performance Centre which also has a high-speed treadmill and an over-the-ground endoscope.

Qualifications


Applicants must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent) and be eligible for general or limited general licensure with the Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association. Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) is required. Previous academic experience and a post-graduate degree are desirable. The individual will have a primary interest in equine practice and be able to primarily provide service in large animal medicine. Participation in after hours on-call duty for the large animal medicine service will be required. This is anticipated to be a 25% (1:4) commitment. Due the nature of the large animal medicine service, ability to provide service to production animals (e.g., cattle, small ruminants) is essential. Experience in equine ambulatory practice or a willingness to build expertise in equine ambulatory practice is essential. Applicants must have a proven commitment to high quality teaching and patient care. Applicants should have demonstrated an ability to succeed in a collaborative clinical and teaching environment. Excellent communication skills and teaching experience are required. This position has no research requirement, but collaboration in ongoing research projects will be encouraged.


Salary bands for this position for the 2022-2023 academic year are as follows:


Lecturer: $83,150 - $123,458.


Salary for this position will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s education and experience.
