Job Description
Reporting to the Manager, Employee and Labour Relations (ELR), the ELR Coordinator provides a comprehensive
range of support services within the Employee & Labour Relations Team, working closely with other areas of the Human
Resources department.
The Employee & Labour Relations Coordinator is responsible for supporting the day-to-day activities of the E&LR team
related to grievance management and the coordination/facilitation of the redeployment process for unionized and nonunionized
employees, in conjunction with the union representative and/or ELR Specialist.
The Employee & Labour Relations Coordinator is responsible for supporting the day-to-day activities of the E&LR team
And Related Processes Such As
  • Coordinates redeployment of Union employees, in conjunction with the union representative.
  • Meet and inform employees in the redeployment process which includes interactions with employees, department
managers, the Union and Health & Ability.
  • All administrative responsibilities related redeployment, such as scheduling meetings, preparation of agendas, notice to
union, employee notice of layoff, reassignment letters, confirmation of redeployment letters, early retirement and voluntary
exit approvals, preparation of staff affect listings, early retirement and voluntary exit listings.
  • Track cost accountabilities for all redeployment/reassignment activity.
  • Updates/maintains status of grievance on myHR; withdraws, resolves, mediation & arbitration referrals – close out all
  • Coordinates reassignment of non-union employees, in conjunction with the ELR Specialist/Associate.

  • Prepares/organizes union meetings for Grievance, Redeployment, and Mediation. With the many union groups, multiple
standing meetings occur monthly resulting in the weekly organization of agendas/meetings.
  • 2-3 years related experience in employee and labour relations
  • Processes implementation of settlements from the arbitration & mediation process.
  • Prepares grievance summaries for union meetings.
  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration or related field required
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation preferred
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio), HRIS (Oracle Cloud) Taleo
and SharePoint
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and collective agreements including Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment
Standards Act, Ontario Labour Relations Act.
  • Ability to organize and establish priorities within multiple projects and tasks, demonstrated ability to meet project and task
deadlines and adjust quickly to changing requirements
  • Demonstrated effective and creative problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy, positive attitude,
initiative, and judgment in developing, adapting and applying processes to address problem situations
  • Professional environment
  • Demonstrated excellence in effective communication and interpersonal skills within a
  • Ability to handle stressful issues and communicate with a variety of people and situations in a courteous, professional
manner

The Employee Labour Relations and Human Rights team, as part of the Human Resources portfolio, is the primary source
of subject matter expertise regarding employee, labour and human rights matters for HHS and its expansive and diverse
population. The team provides a highly effective continuum of human resources services from a varied, high performing
HR professionals comprised of Labour Relations and Diversity & Inclusion Specialists, Associates and Coordinators.
