Description:
Under the leadership of the Director of Operations, the Laboratory Supervisor is critical team member responsible for supporting activities and operations within the IR Scientific lab for the manufacturing and testing of our bioactive glass technologies. The ideal candidate will have experience in the development of medical technologies, oversee key aspects of production, provide technical leadership, troubleshooting of equipment problems, purchasing and vendor management, participating in risk management activities and Quality and Safety audits, and promoting a quality culture across the team, rounded in compliance and delivering high quality products.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Coordinate safe disposal of chemicals.
- Support the investigation of atypical and OOS test results or non-conformances and support actions required, as necessary.
- Assist in the design, execution, and proper documentation of laboratory experiments to support the research and development of IR Scientific’s processes, technologies, and products.
- Participate in risk management activities, i.e., FMEAs, hazard assessments, etc.
- Other relevant duties as assigned by management to meet business needs.
- Contribute to literature searches to support R&D and IP strategies.
- Create and maintain documentation in accordance with good documentation practices, e.g., work instructions and SOPs.
- Liaise with facility management for maintenance and repairs, as needed.
- Promote a quality culture across the lab team, grounded in compliance and delivering high quality products.
- Comply with regulatory requirements and IR-Scientific policies and procedures, including the Health and Safety Program and Quality System requirements.
- Support laboratory operations by managing equipment logs, registrar, and materials inventory.
- Participate in internal and external Quality and Safety audits, as needed.
- Interface closely with cross-functional team including project managers, Quality, and R&D.
- Lead the development of processes for the equipment lifecycle, including acquisition, repairs, maintenance, and spare part inventory.
- Proactively identify and escalate irregularities, artefacts, or critical issues in a timely manner to minimize the impact on project timelines.
- Lead the quality review of production records and test reports for IR Scientific’s flagship bioactive glass.
- Resolve issues and ensure task completion by establishing priorities and reaching compromise with team members and functional managers.
- Actively participate and contribute to the Health and Safety program.
- Build and maintain positive and productive working relationships with outside vendors and test houses.
- Maintain a clean and tidy work environment.
Key Qualifications:
- High level of professionalism, maturity, good judgment, and discretion.
- Proficient computer skills with a high level of competence with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Excellent organizational skills.
- High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
- University degree or College diploma in science or related field.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion as required.
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based department.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience employed in a laboratory-based environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
- Excellent knowledge and familiarity with the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment as well as regulatory requirements for good documentation practices.
- Proficiency with analytical equipment and maintenance.
- Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
Compensation:
- Health and Dental Benefits
- Salary: $60,000 - $75,000 annually
- Paid time off
