Job Description
:


  • Leads collaboration within and across enterprise teams. Initiates, facilitates, and leads regular meetings with users and decision makers to drive to meaningful future state designs.
  • Applies knowledge to improve operational workflows, streamline processes, and support strategies. Consults and advises on advanced features, functions, and proper uses of Cerner applications (including PowerChart) and core systems. Applies in-depth knowledge of operations, expertise from previous implementation experiences to assist with assessment, development and support of workflows.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in working regularly with co-workers, other teams, end users, department managers, vendors, and senior and executive leadership.
  • Produce detailed and thought-out content to support expedient decision-making with governance boards.
  • Participates in various levels of testing (functional, integrated, acceptance) including test planning, test script writing and execution. Operational, system, and acceptance testing.
  • Producing end-to-end CPOE laboratory workflows by working with clinical SMEs, informatics and Cerner application specialists (Visio used).
  • Focus is on physician, nursing and clerical workflows in clinics (and to lesser extent, acute care units) as they pertain to lab order entry including but not limited to encounter/ADT impacts on orders, order activations requisition printing and processing, specimen collection workflows, order sentence designs, invasive specimen collection procedures (including understanding associated non-lab orders required to perform the
  • Procedure), lab order set, internal vs externally executed orders, result display, messaging and reporting.
  • Direct and recommend system solutions to internal teams, operational leadership, clinicians, professional organizations, departmental partners and other key stakeholders.
  • Focus is on workflows that are for patient provider pre and post analytical phases of the end to end aboratory workflows that occur in clinics/units (outside of the laboratory department).
  • High degree of awareness of the interconnectivity of workflows in complex healthcare environments and ability to identify key dependencies and inputs required for successful future state definitions of both workflows and system designs.
  • Lead the development of future state Cerner-based laboratory CPOE workflows in ambulatory and acutecare settings. Will include the transition from paper-based to CPOE lab ordering processes in ambulatory spaces. Expectation is that the consultant is able to self-direct, identify tasks that are required to be performed and be a strong leader/advocate of change.
  • Assist in preparing ancillary lab leadership for go-live with understanding the impacts of a CPO implementation to laboratory operations.
  • Producing training material to the extent of a ‘train the trainer’ level as well as providing support throughout the go-live process.
  • Collaborate with Lab Informatics team that is responsible for LIS applications and intra-lab workflows (working in the LIS and defining intra-lab workflows are out of scope for this role). Communication with Lab Informatics to ensure operational awareness and preparedness for upcoming changes is expected.


Requirements:


  • Proven ability to lead transformation within highly complex EMR implementation projects.
  • Providing expert consultative guidance and direction on change initiatives, effectively dedicating time across more than one project, and meeting established deadlines.
  • Proven history of coordinating in a team-based project to produce high quality deliverables.
  • Minimum 5+ years experience establishing laboratory CPOE workflows in ambulatory care and acute care settings with Cerner EMR solutions; must have experience in implementing workflows that occur outside of the laboratory department.
  • Demonstrated high energy levels and tolerance of tight deadlines, time pressures, and ambiguity.
  • Have a broad knowledge level of healthcare Information Technology (IT) principles, best practices, and an in-depth understanding of lab workflows to complete moderate to highly complex and multi-faceted assignments.
  • Involvement with large scale EMR implementations in fast paced environments
  • Strong experience with defining future state laboratory CPOE workflows throughout the full laboratory lifecycle, with particular focus on pre and post analytic phases.
  • Experience in large-scale, fast faced healthcare environments
  • Minimum 7+ years experience as a clinical or applications analyst, computer technician in a healthcare setting required.
  • Must have strong Knowledge Cerner PowerChart and related functionality that supports Laboratory
  • Demonstrated effective communicator for purposes of interpersonal relations to understand and identify project needs and overall objectives.
  • Proven familiarity of testing as it pertains to laboratory CPOE designs. Proven proficiency in developing test scenarios and scripts for integrated ancillary applications and core systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Applicable bachelor‘s degree in or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong awareness of common problems associated with the implementation of lab CPOE workflows and leveraging this experience to create future state workflows that avoid problems to ensure high levels of user satisfaction.
  • Familiar with change management/incident management processes
  • Experience driving transformational changes in healthcare environments working closely with physicians, nurses, clerks, ancillary department staff, and other key partners
  • Experience translating future state workflows to Cerner system designs


Nice-to-Have:


  • Must have strong experience with CPOE lab workflows in PowerChart. Knowledge of LIS’ is a benefit, but not required.
  • Cerner certifications considered an asset but not required
  • CPOE. LIS knowledge is an asset but not required.
