Title: 1248000 - Instrumentation Engineer


Description:

  • North America Battery Test Lab is seeking an Instrumentation Engineer to develop, supervise fabrication, validate, and deploy high voltage cables and low voltage wiring harnesses for EV battery pack testing; the role is also responsible for instrumentation support in various tests and lab test fixtures development where cabling and wiring is involved.
  • The Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for creating new or the rework on existing cabling and wiring harness diagrams, drawings, cut sheets and interconnection diagrams; specifying cable and wire types and sizes, supervising the in-house build and/or outsourced fabrication, validating the cables and wiring, and ensuring them meet functional, quality and safety requirements.
  • The role will be required to complete all needed training and follow all lab safety processes and procedures.
  • The role needs to collaborate with battery pack test team to ensure all cables, wiring and interface connectors are ready and robust during the test equipment commissioning stage and lab full operation.
  • Initially the role will be focused on training, documentation and launch of the lab.
  • Successful candidate has an opportunity to contribute to a world-class battery lab from the launch stage all the way to the full operation.


Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Support the commissioning of equipment.
  • Ensure all training requirements are kept up to date.
  • Support supervisor on tools and material planning and management.
  • Keep requestors informed on status of all cabling and harness requests.
  • Ensure all cables and harnesses comply with lab safety requirements.
  • Ensure cabling and harness support needs are addressed during installation of equipment and set up of the lab.
  • Ensure all cables and harnesses in the highest possible quality.
  • Support root cause analysis and resolution of wiring issues uncovered during testing.
  • Complete required training; follow safety requirements.
  • Proactively work to resolve issues.
  • Employ best practices in all cable and harness builds.


Requirements:

  • Hands-on skills for building cables and wiring harnesses.
  • Capable of using CAD for schematics and wiring harness drawing generation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Practical skills of common laboratory tools and instruments.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in product testing in laboratory or manufacturing environments, cabling and wiring experience is preferred.
  • Experience with high voltage, high power system and cabling; familiar with electrical codes and safety requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Preferred Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a unionized environment.
  • Prior experience or knowledge of ISO 17025 or 9001 accreditation.
  • Experience in automotive wiring design and / or manufacturing.


Additional Must Haves:

  • Location: 100% Onsite (ARDC, 3939 Rhodes Drive, Windsor, ON, CA).
  • No Driving a Client Vehicle.
  • Travel: Occasional Travel to the US CTC or 3rd party facility in MI (1-2 times per month) for meetings.
  • Experience in vehicle wiring harness; knowledge of cable sizing, connectors.
  • Electrical/Electronics background, experience in creating electrical diagram.
  • 3 years or more experience.
  • Hands on experience on making and modifying wiring.


Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
