Position Title Instructor Limited-term

Posting Number F485P

Type of position Limited Term

Department/Unit Psychology and Neuroscience

Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

About The Opportunity

This is a 1-year limited term Instructor position (with the potential for renewal for one or two additional years) in our CPA Accredited Clinical Psychology Program within the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Dalhousie University beginning July 1, 2023. Candidates must have a PhD in Psychology and a CPA or an APA accredited internship, and should be fully registered (for independent practice) in the province of Nova Scotia or be eligible for registration. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated teaching excellence and experience in a variety of graduate psychology courses and should have clinical experience with assessment and intervention, preferably across the lifespan.

The candidate will primarily teach psychology courses at the graduate level, with some possibility of teaching at the undergraduate level (depending on applicant qualifications). Teaching responsibilities will include supervision of PhD students who are engaging in intervention and assessment with adult clients at the Dalhousie Social Work Community Clinic. This clinic serves marginalized populations and is an interprofessional model of teaching and service. The position requires the applicant to be physically present in Halifax for various duties, though some components of teaching may also be handled online. The preferred online learning management system at Dalhousie is Brightspace.

Research is not a required component of this position. However, in keeping with the nature of the Psychology and Neuroscience Department, we will support the successful applicant in developing or continuing to develop their research program, if desired.

Dalhousie University ( www.dal.ca ) is located in the vibrant ocean-side city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which offers an excellent quality of life, including active local food, arts, and music scenes, easy access to outdoor activities, and high-quality health and education centres. Dalhousie University’s Clinical Psychology program is based on a scientist-practitioner model and is designed to give our graduates a thorough grounding in science, research and clinical practice. Students are focused on research from the beginning of the program. Students also start applied training in their first year and continue throughout the program. Due to our emphasis on the science of psychology, our program produces clinical psychologists who blend the ideals of research and service.

Review of applications will begin May 22, 2023 and continue until the position is filled. Applications should be submitted at http://dal.peopleadmin.ca/postings/12949. Applications should include: 1) a cover letter; 2) a curriculum vitae; 3) a teaching dossier including evaluations received in previously taught university courses; 4) a statement of teaching interest and past teaching experiences; 5) a list of at least three referees; and 6) a clinical dossier including clinical credentials, a summary of clinical experience, and clinical supervision experience (which should be uploaded as “portfolio”).

Dalhousie University commits to achieving inclusive excellence through continually championing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. The university encourages applications from Indigenous persons (especially Mi’kmaq), persons of Black/African descent (especially African Nova Scotians), and members of other racialized groups, persons with disabilities, women, and persons identifying as members of 2SLGBTQ+ communities, and all candidates who would contribute to the diversity of our community.
