Industry Training Program Curriculum Specialist

The Canadian Avalanche Association is looking for someone to take on the role of Industry Training Program Curriculum Specialist. Our office is located in Revelstoke, B.C., remote work will be considered for the right candidate.

Who We Are

The Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) serves Canada’s avalanche community. Among our services, the CAA delivers a comprehensive array of training for avalanche professionals through our Industry Training Program (ITP). This program prepares workers to be responsible for avalanche safety in industries such as ski areas, highway operations, railways, mines, and guiding. In order to assist industries and operational staff with this challenge, the CAA has developed a training program with exceptionally high standards.

What's the Job?

The ITP Curriculum Specialist supports what many consider the best avalanche training program in the world. The ITP Curriculum Specialist oversees annual and long-term development of ITP course curriculum. Responsibilities include reviewing student and instructor feedback, facilitating relevant instructor meetings and prioritizing and overseeing curriculum revisions. The Curriculum Specialist communicates curriculum updates to the ITP team, relevant industry stakeholders and the instructor team. The Curriculum Specialist works with the ITP Manager to train new instructors and provides on-site or remote feedback and training to existing instructors. They stay up to date on best practices in adult education. This position is a vital part of the CAA team and the part-time nature of this position lends itself to a healthy work/life balance.

This is a part-time (FTE 0.5) position. The incumbent will work with the ITP Manager for specific hours.

Workload will increase during summer months and decrease during winter months.

Compensation: $30.45-$37.80 per hour.

Requirements

Required

• Extremely organized and detail oriented
• Able to maintain a budget
• Able to demonstrate advanced backcountry travel skills in either skiing or split boarding
• Sound judgement and decision-making
• Ability to facilitate interactive and informative virtual meetings
• Able to work outdoors in adverse winter weather
• Able to work well in a team environment
• Demonstrated leadership experience
• Strong proficiency in applications including Word, Excel, Sharepoint. Zoom etc.
• Demonstrated experience with developing curriculum
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Familiar with best practices in adult education
• Post-secondary education or equivalent
• Highly self-motivated and self-directed
• Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Able to analyze and prioritize/multiple task

Desired Qualifications:

• Familiarity with current CAA Industry Training Program courses
• CAA Member in good standing
• Current experience in avalanche risk management
• Knowledge of subject matter
