Position Summary


The heavy equipment welder is responsible for the maintenance, repair, welding, and fabrication tasks for our range of heavy machinery, including bulldozers, excavators, and loaders. The heavy equipment welder will inspect equipment for wear and damage, perform necessary repairs, and ensure that all machinery meets the highest standards of safety and functionality.


Responsibilities


  • Use oxy-acetylene torches or plasma cutting tools to cut metal pieces when needed.
  • Use welding techniques to fabricate new or replacement parts for heavy equipment.
  • Ensure that all welding jobs are completed to the highest standards of quality and durability.
  • Evaluate heavy equipment to identify defects, wear and tear, and areas in need of repair or replacement.
  • Interpret and work according to specifications from blueprints, schematics, and other documentation.
  • Clean, maintain, and service welding tools and equipment regularly to ensure they're in good working order.
  • Safely operate the heavy equipment, if necessary, to test the functionality post-repair or to position it for welding.
  • Examine completed welds to ensure that they are smooth, non-porous, and sturdy. This may involve using tools or testing methods to verify the strength and integrity of the weld.
  • Stay updated with the latest welding techniques, equipment innovations, and safety guidelines.
  • Diagnose and repair structural damages in heavy equipment such as bulldozers, graders, loaders, and other related machinery.
  • Record repair and maintenance tasks and note any relevant details about the equipment or the job.
  • Collaborate with operators, mechanics, and other team members to ascertain equipment issues and ensure swift repair.
  • Choose the correct type of welding method and materials based on the specific requirements of the equipment and job.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and ensure that the work area is secure. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) properly.
  • Identify potential issues or inefficiencies in machinery and come up with solutions to resolve or prevent them.


Qualifications


  • Willingness to travel to project sites as necessary.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols related to welding and heavy equipment.
  • Physical ability to handle heavy tools and equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to troubleshoot problems and find effective solutions.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of welding equipment and procedures.
  • Proven experience as a welder, with specific experience in heavy equipment welding.
