Job Summary
The Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) Specialist is responsible for supporting a dynamic team of facility management and project professionals operating in the provincial government sector in Canada. This position is responsible for coordinating and executing various health and safety programs including the West Nile Virus treatment program, fire drills and fire safety plan reviews. The Specialist also supports the CBRE Small Works project team dealing with HSSE and cultural heritage issues related to project planning.
The successful candidate is highly organized and able to coordinate multiple activities within tight timelines. The successful candidate will support the Sr. HSSE Manager by providing initial troubleshooting and technical expertise for fire and life safety and project specific account inquiries in support of the account HSSE platform, assists in the development of presentations, contributes to the development of key communication and notification documents, and generally supports the needs of the Facilities Management, Small Works and HSSE teams.
WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
Fire & Life Safety Program
Assist the FM team in the development, management, and maintenance of site-specific fire safety plans, including:
Document review
Stakeholder communication management (i.e., development of communication tools and templates)
Stakeholder escalation management
On-time review and maintenance of plans
Support to facilities and project teams as it relates to fire evacuation planning during project activities on site, specifically major construction, renovation & demolition activities
Management of the program to ensure continual improvement of documents, data and document security and consistent update and management of the relevant materials, including submission to the local fire department
Assist the FM team by coordinating fire drill work orders and tracking progress to completion of required drills
Provide the Director of HSSE with regular status reporting and metrics as it relates to keystone programs including:
Progress reporting on the fire evacuation planning programing
Exception reporting / barriers to completion
Reporting on compliance assurance activities outlined above
Small Works / Projects Support Activities
Support the client account project management team in the management of projects as it relates to key HSSE and Cultural Heritage aspects
Assist the Client account project management team in HSSE project risk assessments to ensure appropriate safety considerations are applied to all high-risk endeavors
Provide assistance interpreting and applying HSSE environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements to all client account project management activities
Conduct periodic audit of the Client account project management team execution checklists and project charters to ensure appropriate HSSE considerations were included into the executed project
Be able to conduct research and review activities on a wide variety of topics and initiatives in the areas of health, safety and environment, and be able to summarize and communicate to your manager
Coordinate vendors involved in the provincial West Nile treatment program.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must to be successful in this position
Well-developed ability to track, organize and communicate large amounts of information
Have moderate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office
Other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager, HSSE
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role does not have formal supervisory responsibilities, however, does occasionally have access to privileged or confidential information. The successful candidate will be able to conduct themselves in an ethical manner which supports the privacy and confidentiality of information, protects the assets of CBRE and the client, while acting with ethics and integrity.

EDUCATION And EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in an environmental, health and/or safety program or equivalent.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple activities within tight timelines.
Possess broad knowledge of the requirements and carry out all duties in accordance with applicable legislation including (but not limited to) the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Environmental Protection Act, Environmental Assessment Act, the Ontario Fire Code and other legislation.
Experience in fire & life safety, emergency management or occupational health and safety considered an asset.
Communication Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong ability to write communications, memos, presentations, and other communication collaterals a must.
Oral communications and ability to work with others in a collaborative and constructive manner is absolutely required.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve advanced problems and deal with a variety of options in complex situations.
Requires analytical and quantitative skills with proven experience in developing strategic solutions for a dynamic, progressive portfolio of mixed-use facilities.

Travel Requirements
Travel across Ontario will be required as part of the role during investigations and the internal HSSE audit program (approximately 5% of time).
