The opportunity
We are seeking a Head of Analytics to build, transform and redesign our business analytics team, function and practices across the enterprise organization. This senior leader will be a data expert and compassionate leader who uses their meticulous understanding of analytics and business strategy to help the organization make smarter decisions in order to accelerate earnings, grow the client base and improve client experiences. This is an opportunity to create a Centre of Excellence, set the vision and strategy for analytics within the business, and build out a respective roadmap to drive value from data.
The successful incumbent will have excellent communication skills and present and promote recommendations in front of executive management. Highly collaborative and consistently looking for ways to make an impact in all areas of the business, this leader will have strong technical knowledge, a long-standing background in financial services and banking and demonstrated people leadership managing and building a successful team in a fast-paced environment.
Areas of focus
Create Value from Data
- Leverage the FTP tool and fee data to focus on portfolio and customer profitability measurements and conduct deep dives to highlight opportunities for business improvement
- Act as the business lead, working in close collaboration with Finance, the annual budget process, rolling out top down targets, updated scorecards, incentive plans and reporting for various business lines and channels
- Align data and analytics solutions with business opportunities to unlock value by transforming data into useful and digestible formats for end-use consumption and meaningful insights that can be actioned.
- Create the long-term vision, strategy, and approach for data and analytics building out foundational improvements, building a centre of excellence and related roadmap to support overall business plans and objectives
- Help shape the big-data architecture and infrastructure that will enable future technologies; develop, oversee, and reinforce data strategy, governance, standards, and best practices. Deliver insights in an automated and self-service manner
- Directly enable the bank and channel partners to better use data to uncover new opportunities that will enable CWB to deliver exceptional customer experiences and earnings growth
- Deliver actionable sales insights and 360 view of the client. Advise the leadership team on growth related opportunities – both at the customer and portfolio level in order to drive new client acquisition, improve earnings growth and margins and enhance the client experience scores (NPS)
- Partner on the annual strategic plan with colleagues in Finance, Strategy and business partners to develop and optimize short to medium-term plans by bringing together data insights to drive strategic areas of focus and recommendations.
People & Culture Focus
- Oversee the team’s daily functions to ensure timely responses to business inquiries, resolution of issues, and compliance
- Keep up with industry trends and emerging technologies in data analytics
- Build a high-performance, results-focused team and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates employees by fostering an inclusive work environment; develop and coach the team while enabling progressive career development and an incredible employee experience
- Develop training programs, promote data-driven culture, create data resources, collaborate with stakeholders, and track progress
- Work with key business partners to seamlessly lead the day-to-day function of the department in support of corporate objectives
Successful incumbent
Core knowledge requirements
- Solid experience operating in ambiguous settings and operating environment
- Master’s degree in Analytics or MBA or consulting background highly Preferred
- Deep understanding of data analytics
- Excellent planning and strategic thinking skills, with solid understanding of P/L levers
- Working knowledge of SAS, SQL, Python, PowerBI, Tableau and very good understanding of data models
- Degree in Analytics, Business, Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance or Statistics
- High credibility with senior management teams, channel line management as well as business lines and other functional areas across the bank
- Thorough understanding of banking products and concepts with a strong commercial mindset
Demonstrated experience
- Experience evaluating program performance across multiple domains
- Proven ability to successfully build, engage and lead teams, with a strong coaching mindset
- Demonstrated ability to explain complex data/information and present data driven insights to senior leadership
- 5+ years of experience leading large teams and demonstrated experience building high-performing teams from scratch
- Ability to make decisions and assume high-level leadership responsibilities
- 15+ years of experience in analytics, finance, data management or actuarial with demonstrated experience in statistical analysis and modelling, big data environments, and relational database structures
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead several complex programs across multiple stakeholders and departments
- Banking and/or Financial Services Consulting experience is a requirement
