Geotechnical Design Engineer Jobs

Reporting to the Geotechnical and Underworks Design Manager, the Geotechnical Design Senior Engineer will:

• Lead the efforts for creating analytical two and three-dimensional models under direction from the Geotechnical and Underworks Design Manager.
• Other duties as applicable
• Review the work of all geotechnical engineers and outside consultants engaged in the project development, engineering and design
• Support the conceptual design, engineering analysis, procurement and construction of major infrastructure projects, including but not limited to highways, tunnels and underground infrastructure projects
• Provide technical direction to the geotechnical design group; from concept through design basis and detailed design.
• Analyze ground movements predictions, construction impact assessment reports, and the strategies for mitigation of risk.
• Responsible for all technical work pertaining to solving geotechnical design problems and review of design calculations
• Discuss with the Client and with the Designer’s specialists on specialized items. Lead the collaborative efforts with all the parties to solve complex geotechnical issues, related to modeling, soil structure interaction, ground improvement, risk mitigation and other topics.
• Provide technical input to the Risk matrix, as well as to other documents to be internally developed by Ferrovial
• Ensure that geotechnical inputs to the BOQ are precise, back-up is clearly explained, and there are no relevant concepts missing. Assist other departments when necessary to explain and address the rationale or fundamentals for such inputs.
• Prepare specialized geotechnical reports (with special emphasis on underground works), including but not limited to soil and rock characterization, foundations, support of excavations, soil improvement, pavements, retaining walls, soil and rock reinforcement, impermeabilization, etc.
• Propose and analyze monitoring systems and its implementation.
• Ensure all geotechnical designs are in accordance with the Ferrovial Group’s standards and Contract requirements.
• Prepare routine geotechnical study proposals and reports, including proposal for new investigations (borings, geophysical, etc)
• Negotiate engineering fees, scope of works and other related contractual issues with the Geotechnical Consultants.
• Ensure that geotechnical principles and analyses are appropriately understood and applied in design, including those related to complex soil and structure interaction modelling.

Qualifications

• 10 years design management and robust construction experience on complex civil infrastructure projects, including excavations, shafts, etc. and ideally underground works (SEM, TBM). More experience will be a plus
• Proficiency in Engineering Software and Microsoft Office. Skills in geotechnical and soil-structure modeling software (2D and 3D) and construction impacts assessment will be paramount.
• P.Eng in a Canadian province or eligibility for P.Eng registration with Professional Engineers Ontario.
• Sound knowledge on soil and rock characterization, rock mass classifications, exploration and testing methods, rock and soil complex modelling and behavior, etc.
• Capability to work in a fast-paced high-volume construction environment
• Master’s degree from an accredited university in geotechnical or civil engineering.
• Assertive, with strong analytical and communication skills
