Our Client:
Ontario Genomics (OG) is a not-for-profit organization funded by the Ontario government and Genome Canada. Established in 2000, Ontario Genomics is the only entity focused solely on stimulating, enabling, and nurturing genomics innovation in Ontario. They act as a catalyst for developing and applying genomic technologies across key sectors – health, agriculture, bioproducts, and the environment – to grow the province’s knowledge-based economy and create jobs and social benefits for all Ontarians.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the VP of Finance and Administration, the Financial Controller will have ownership of the financial, purchasing and accounting operations of Ontario Genomics Institute. This includes the management of research project accounting, analysis of Operational data, and variance analysis with responsibility for compliance and reporting. Also, this individual will be responsible for supporting an effective IT environment including cybersecurity and Risk Management. Role Responsibilities:
- Preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statements for the Board of Directors and other stakeholders.
- Managing the payroll and benefits reporting, accounting, changes and updates.
- Cultivate and maintain productive communications with key stakeholders which includes funding sources, the Government of Ontario, CFOs at Genome Canada, other affiliated Genome centres, and financial officers for institutions receiving funding.
- Formal quarterly review of progress and budget variance with the Leadership Team.
- Assisting with the annual budget cycle, reporting performance against budget, and collaborating with the VP of Finance, will develop and monitor a five-year financial plan with quarterly updates.
- Ensuring ongoing compliance with quarterly financial reporting for all projects, managing draw requests and advances to fund projects and being the primary contact for all projects and leads for financial matters relating to the projects.
- Implement and monitor financial policies and procedures including expense management.
- Compliance reporting for funders and the Board of Directors.
Desired Qualifications:
- Possesses a positive attitude, integrity, a sense of humour, and brings a positive energy & outlook to a corporate culture.
- Experience or interest in business process analysis and data analytics is an asset.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, results-oriented, dynamic environment.
- Is motivated by continuous learning and the desire to make a difference and a real contribution to the genomics research and innovation ecosystem.
- Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills, including effective engagement with diverse and senior stakeholders including Board members.
- CPA designation with at least five years of progressive work experience with full accounting responsibility.
- Strong interpersonal and coaching skills; team orientation.
- Able to drive progress in complex environments consisting of multiple stakeholders who often have differing goals.
Please note that at present, legal eligibility to work in Canada is a prerequisite for this role.
