Your goal in this position is to ensure the safe and reliable systems and environment for all Cambridge Memorial Hospital patients, physicians, staff, volunteers and visitors. You will play a key role in the development and implementation of the preventative maintenance and computerized maintenance management system. This includes; the work order programs, the capturing and verification of hospital facility assets, building of preventative maintenance routines based on leading practice, OEM recommendations, and empirical evidence.


You will also oversee the associated and ongoing documentation and reporting. You will supervise and prioritize work assignments for various trades and employees within the Plant Operations department and will ensure the appropriate staff training is in place, for facility systems, including CMMS training.


You will take a proactive approach in ensuring the efficient utilization of staff, supplies, utilities and equipment that is cost effective. You will minimize service disruption during maintenance and repairs, you will liaise with various Hospital stakeholders while ensuring quality service delivery within the Hospital.


This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families. On a practical level, you will Manage and mentor various trades and Facilities Management employees.


  • Run reports and track statistics and working with your Manager to enhance an evidence based facility decision making process
  • In collaboration with your Manager you will assess all Hospital plant and building projects including but not limited to additions and modifications.
  • Partner with Finance & Procurement to ensure efficient use of financial resources
  • Complete physical audits to validate the quality and condition of facility assets and the impact of preventative maintenance schedules, timeframe, and work completed on these assets (productivity review)
  • Review and recommend technological change to ensure appropriate staffing levels and to provide training and development as required to optimize the use of CMMS and other assistive devices and programs
  • Maintain policies, procedures and records as required to ensure the Hospital’s ability to demonstrate compliance
  • Manage supplies, inventories and various systems
  • Maintain the Computerized Maintenance Management System for facility assets, preventative maintenance programs and ensure timely completion of all scheduled and assigned work
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance activities with Facilities Management staff
  • Ensure training and compliance with the various regulations, standards, leading practices and laws required for governing the occupancy and use of space for various trades and Facilities Management staff
  • Work with suppliers regarding product specification, pricing, selection and to review services provided


Skills and Qualifications


  • Five (5) years’ experience working in building operations with significant exposure to plant equipment operations and maintenance
  • Working knowledge of building codes and safety legislation, ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Facility Management Professional designation (FMP) preferred
  • Completion of a Post-Secondary Diploma in a technology program such as building sciences, electrical, mechanical or HVAC and/or completion of an apprenticeship as an electrician, industrial mechanic, millwright, or equivalent and/or 3rd Class Stationary Engineers Certificate
  • Five (5) years’ experience with supervision preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related CMMS/Asset management experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Laws, bylaws, Codes, Regulations, WHMIS, OHSA and CSA Standards
  • Knowledge and experience with financial management procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
