Job Description
We are searching for a passionate professional who leads with a people-first lens and inspires others to do the same. The ESL Instructor is part of a dedicated team who provide client centred service in ways that are aligned with the NFAMC’s core values, and creates a safe and engaging environment where newcomers can learn the English language and cover topics that provide information on employment, culture, and local resources that make integration easier. As an integral member of the LINC/ESL team, the ESL Instructor will demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success, and participate in activities outside of the classroom including student support and department committees. Position Summary


  • Adhere to the case management model of the organization, make internal referrals, aligned with the settlement plan; keep supervisor informed of progress and challenges.
  • Communicate with the LINC/ESL Team on class vacancies, students’ status and any class issues.
  • Develop a diversity of course materials integrating real-world-task objectives and activities, in addition to assessment tasks for on-going evaluation of learner’s progress, all of which are based on the curriculum guidelines.
  • Conduct on-going needs assessments with learners on their language skills development and digital capabilities, assist them to set learning goals and develop lessons accordingly.
  • Work with internal resources to engage and involve volunteers in the delivery of the project.
  • Organize guest speakers and special events to enhance learners’ participation and cultural experience.
  • Design, implement and instruct an English as a Second Language class, “English for the Workplace” according to funder requirements and guidelines; design level-appropriate module and lesson plans
  • Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for clients and ensure service is provided in a culturally responsive manner.
  • Deliver instruction to learners remotely through video conferencing
  • Under the direction of the Program Lead of LINC/ESL, develop and align the project goals with timelines and milestones.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Program Lead.
  • Maintain attendance records and other documentation as required.
  • Prepare learner’s progress reports and conduct one-on-one interviews with learners to provide feedback on learning progress.
  • Provide remote instruction in the classroom while integrating online resources, Learning Management System (LMS) such as Google Classroom and other digital delivery tools such as digital whiteboard, Chromebooks and MS Office programs.


Education and Professional Development / Training


  • Post-secondary education completion and must have valid TESL Ontario certificate.
  • Please list in your application the courses/professional development you have completed from this list: Case Management, Gender Based Analysis (GBA+), Human Trafficking, Conflict Resolution, Prevention/Management of Aggressive Behaviour, Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Intervention, Motivational Counselling Techniques, Crisis Prevention & De-escalation, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention/Counselling, Anti-Racism & Anti-Oppression Capacity Building, Building Inclusive Communities, LGBTQ2S+, Positive Spaces, Cultural Competency/Humility, Immigrant and Refugee Mental Health, Trauma Informed Care Practice, and Emergency First Aid & CPR.


Required Experience And Knowledge


  • Minimum 2 years of experience teaching English as a Second Language to adult newcomers, preferably in a class with a similar specialization.
  • Substantiated experience with designing and facilitating training and developing training tools.
  • Advanced level and comfort with/using technology, including the use of Google Workspace, Google Classroom, MS Office programs, on-line platforms, and databases.
  • Accurately collects, manages and reports data to the direct supervisor for reporting purposes.
  • Experience instructing students online is required.
