To be considered for this position, you must have a valid driver's license, pass physicals and drug/alcohol testing, and be willing to travel to various job locations in South Central Pennsylvania and/or Northern Maryland.
The pay rate is dependent upon the license and years of experience.
What exactly is an Apprenticeship? Walton & Company utilizes two different schools for their apprentices. Both the York County School of Technology (YCST) and Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Keystone Center have great programs to serve our employees.
Apprenticeship programs are targeted toward giving hardworking people good careers in the construction industry. The goal of each program is to develop skilled workers and craftspeople and teach them a trade they can thrive in while they earn a great income in PA. These programs allow contractors to employ a highly skilled workforce that has been trained to be the best it can be. On-the-job training is part of our apprenticeship programs, along with classroom instruction which provides the knowledge apprentices need to be up to date in their industry.
The common requirement for the apprenticeship program is 144 hours of schooling each year and a total of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training for the 4-year program.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities May Include
  • Assembles and installs a variety of metal and non-metal pipes, tubes, and fittings including iron, steel, copper, and plastic.
  • Able to work at heights using ladders and lifts and in confined spaces.
  • Follow company policies and procedures as outlined in company employee and safety handbooks.
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism calmly and effectively in stressful situations.
  • Able to drive a company vehicle, and work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Hang assembled pipe in hangers or other supports.
  • Clean and prepare construction sites.
  • Dig holes or trenches.
  • Cut and drill holes in walls or floors to accommodate the passage of pipes.
  • Speak, write, read, and understand the English language well enough to perform the job's essential duties.
  • Able to lay out full-scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, or related equipment, according to blueprints.
  • Inspect, or test installed systems or pipelines.
  • Cut and thread pipes to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe threaders.
  • Mount brackets and hangers on walls and ceilings to hold pipes.
  • Cut, grind, and prepares the pipe for welding.
  • Attach pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment.
  • Measure, cut, layout, assemble and install plumbing and piping.
  • Read blueprints and drawings to understand or plan the layout of plumbing, according to specifications.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Fit valves, couplings, or assemblies to tanks, pumps, or systems using hand tools.
  • Demonstrate honest and ethical behaviors.
  • Move construction materials to locations where they are needed.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe work conditions to the safety officer.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities May Include
  • Able to pay attention to detail and ask questions.
  • Able and willing to work cooperatively with others.
  • Completion of Plumbing Apprenticeship or Trade School preferred.
  • Able and willing to maintain an acceptable attendance record.
  • Post-secondary trades certificate preferred.
  • Reliable, responsible, and dependable.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn.
  • Honest and ethical.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
