ENGINEERING ARCHITECT

Reports to: Dan Hutten, Design Manager

BASIC FUNCTION

The Engineering Architect will be responsible for leading the design process of construction projects from conception to completion. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of wood framing practices, building codes, regulations and have experience in managing teams of designers. The senior designer will also be responsible for completing construction drawing packages and being a resource on the project through construction.

Duties & Responsibilities

Area of Responsibility

• Being a resource on the project through construction to ensure the design intent is being realized and the project is delivered on time and within budget.
• Analyze preliminary drawings during sales process for structural/construction feasibility.
• Lead the design process of construction projects from conceptualization to completion.
• Support internal design activities including project work, specification writing, tender drawing creation, contractor management, deficiency identification and problem solving.
• Stay current with emerging design trends, construction technology and building codes.
• Analyze structural components of designs, including loading calculations and beam, lintel and floor joist designs.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to ensure the design meets regulatory requirements and construction standards.
• Makes recommendations or decisions on architecture, application design, standards, and process improvements in line with client needs and requirements.
• Work with a team of designers to ensure quality work and adherence to project timelines.
• Review and assign resources as required to meet schedule, budget, and technical needs; actively seek additional services to benefit the client and Post Structures; strive to ensure that projects are started with adequate lead time to complete within client time parameters and to meet Post Structures and team needs with respect to work-loading and overall financial considerations.
• Support team in completing working drawings, plans, models, and schemes using computer-aided design (CAD) software – almost exclusively Autodesk Revit.

Skills and Knowledge

• Awareness of building issues, building and safety codes, the range of relevant products and materials, ergonomics, and applicable industry standards and regulations
• Strong analytical, problem solving and conflict management skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Software proficiencies related to the assignment – Autodesk Revit & AutoCAD. Microsoft Office suite
• Ability to develop creative but functional solutions to solve Client issues.
• Experience producing design deliverables for concept, schematic, detail, and construction document stages of the project.
• Produce architectural construction drawings for all buildings and facilities. Using Revit, AutoCAD, or similar software.
• Strong knowledge of wood frame construction and structural design.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills.
• Results-oriented with strong client service / management skills.
