Job Description
Overview

Bring your writing, editing, and publication-management skills to a role with a diverse range of internal and external communications. WorkSafeBC's Communications department is seeking an editor to join our team.

As an editor, you'll have hands-on responsibility for working with internal subject matter experts to ensure print, web, and multimedia materials are accurate and consistent with voice, style, content, and quality. Your role may involve writing and editing a variety of materials, and managing editorial projects from conception through final publication.

If you are a collaborative-minded, detail-oriented individual with at least six years of experience working in an editorial, communications, or publishing environment, we'd like to hear from you!

How you'll make a difference: You'll build the understanding and trust that helps WorkSafeBC serve people across B.C.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you'll work primarily from your B.C. home and occasionally in our Richmond office.

What You'll Do

  • Manage the production of a variety of resources for internal and external audiences from development through publication, providing direction and quality control on projects for web or print publication, ensuring adherence to our editorial and publishing standards
  • Liaise with clients and artists, web publishers, photographers, typesetting, printing, or outside suppliers
  • Provide expertise to internal clients in developing story ideas and other content
  • Write, edit, and coordinate the production of brochures, booklets, posters, reports, manuals, newsletters, incident summaries, and other projects
  • Assist departments with their communications needs by providing advice on style, objectives, and publication standards and procedures

Is this a good fit for you?

We're Looking For Someone Who Can

  • Demonstrate experience with writing and all stages of editing: structural, stylistic, copy editing, and proofreading. Experience with plain-language editing is an asset
  • Use Microsoft Office products, including MS Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Clearly and concisely present and explain technical information, verbally and in writing, to audiences with varying levels of understanding
  • Independently plan and organize multiple projects in a team environment while clearly and concisely presenting and explaining technical information, verbally and in writing, to audiences with varying levels of understanding and information needs
  • Provide persuasive and diplomatic input, advice, and guidance to others on a design and production team

Your Background And Experience

  • A degree in English, journalism, communications, social sciences or science
  • A minimum of six years of recent, related experience working in an editorial, communications, or publishing environment

We'll consider equivalent combinations of education and experience.

Important to know

Before we can finalize any offer of employment, you must:

  • Confirm you're legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Consent to a criminal record check
