Job Description
The primary role of Database Developer / Administrator is for database design, development and maintenance to ensure CritiCall Ontario meets the requirements of the Transfer Payment Agreement (TPA) with the MOHLTC. This TPA requires CritiCall Ontario to provide data indicators to Ontario hospitals, LHINs and the Ministry of Health for a wide variety of provincial projects and initiatives independently of Hamilton Health Sciences. The Database Developer / Administrator will be required to provide enterprise database management for data reporting from all of CritiCall Ontario’s information systems.


This position is responsible for design, development and maintenance of our database server for reporting and internal applications. This includes leading and providing guidance with regards to architecture, design, coding, and unit testing. They will also be responding to and resolving support and deployment issues as well as being a domain expert with MS SQL configuration, installation, monitoring, security and disaster recovery activities.


  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple priorities while maintaining high attention to detail and accuracy
  • SQL Server 2016 or higher Installation and configuration experience with SQL Server, SQL Server Service Packs and Cumulative Updates
  • Familiarity with SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, Power BI, AWS
  • Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL programing
  • Strong technical knowledge within the DBMS environment including installation, administration, performance analysis, capacity planning and systems management
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills
  • 5+ years of proven working experience as a SQL Server DBA
  • Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or equivalent technical related program
  • Experience with creating database documentation including ERD’s, data dictionaries and architecture diagrams
  • Previous work experience in a clinical or highly regulated sector (pharma, clinical, banking, etc.)

Unit Summary


The CritiCall Ontario Program (CritiCall) is a single, province-wide one-number-to-call to access "resources" for critically ill patients. This 24-hour-a-day physician consultation and patient referral service links hospitals and medical resources across the province of Ontario and provides crucial services for physicians and other care providers. The scope of CritiCall services include: 24-hour-a-day medical 911 physician consultation and patient referral service for hospital based Ontario physicians. A capacity management system documenting the status of and access to acute care beds. Implementation, training and problem solving assistance for the Critical Care Information System (CCIS) to Ontario hospital critical care units.


Schedule Work Hours


Monday to Friday days - 37.5hrs/wk
