The Opportunity
4 month work term: September - December 2023
How You Will Contribute
As part of the Operations Software Tools group, you will develop, build, troubleshoot, and support the cloud data ecosystem used in Ciena’s production lines. New data management systems and new tools are required for the next generation of industrial mass production, to grow our testing capabilities, which will be deployed abroad at the sites of our manufacturing partners.
The ideal candidate is a flexible, highly technical problem solver, with interdisciplinary knowledge of software, statistics, and test & measurement. You feel at home in a dynamic, multi-team engineering environment, acting as an interface between product design, test engineering teams, volume production lines, operations, and finance.
In this role, you will..

• Develop software automation with different cloud tools.
• Provide interfaces for other groups to use the new tools with different technologies.
• Create new tools to scale test capabilities to higher volumes.
• Build and help maintain our cloud data ecosystem.
• Optimization of test methods to increase throughput and robustness.
• Adapt new technologies to improve or replace test processes.
• Mine data to help find and automate anomaly finding.
• Develop data models and algorithms to apply to data sets

The Must Haves

• Familiarity with Machine Learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow, Keras, or PyTorch) and libraries (e.g., scikit-learn)
• Experience in a variety of advanced statistical and machine learning techniques (e.g., regression, distributions, clustering, ANNs, etc.)
• Enrolled in a Ph.D. or master’s program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or related fields with a focus on data science techniques
• Experience in Python programming
• Commitment to work full-time (40 hrs/week)
• Proficient in a high-level programming language (e.g. python, java)

The Assets

• Knowledge of Apache Spark, and Databricks.
• Knowledge of cloud technologies (AWS).

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluent English (Bilingual: English/French is desirable).
