Dam Safety Eit/Engineer

Position Reports To: Chief Tailings Engineer
Position Overview
The Dam Safety Engineer will approach all dam-related activities with a safety-first mindset and supervise the tailings inspector team while coordinating activities with contractors and New Gold staff. This role will act as the field agent for the Tailings Storage Facility Qualified Person to enforce all regulations, policies, and best practices with respect to dam safety.
Key Responsibilities

• Deliver professionally written technical documents related to inspections.
• Other duties as required.
• Coordinate activities related to meeting performance objectives set by the Engineers of Record.
• Lead the field coordination of projects to support dam safety and water management activities.
• Act as a lead in representation for dam safety on all activities on and around the mine site tailings storage facilities.
• Participate in dam safety inspections, dam safety reviews, and Independent Tailings Review Board meetings.
• Provide experienced guidance and supervision to technical staff on dam inspections, field reports, and deficiency tracking and remediation.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience in tailings or other dam-related work.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills are considered essential
• Experience working with the Mining Association of Canada’s tailings protocols and Canadian Dam Association Guidelines is considered an asset.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mining, Geotechnical, Civil, or related discipline).
• Excellent organizational abilities, strong leadership, mentoring, and supervisory skills are considered essential.
• Experience in field investigations, dam surveillance, and dam construction activities is considered essential.
• Experience with Global Mapper, SAP, and AutoCAD is considered an asset.
• Eligible or registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
