Coordinator, Youth Recreational & Leisure Activities
Full Time, Temporary (CSJ)
Ottawa, ON
CNIB invites you to build a career as unique as you! We are currently searching for a Coordinator, Youth Recreational and Leisure Activities! Reporting to the Program Lead, Children and Youth Engagement (Ontario East), the Coordinator, Youth Recreational & Leisure Activities will support program staff running in person and/or virtual summer camps. The Coordinator, Youth Recreational and Leisure Activities will assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of summer programs for children and youth that experience vision loss. Additional duties may be assigned as required.
Your impact at CNIB
  • Manage Zoom meetings including opening sessions, coordination of participants and monitoring of break out rooms as required.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of all children and youth in-person day programming as requested.
  • Research and arrange activities with third party organizations, recreational groups, and guest speakers.
  • Ensure participants have all necessary materials in preferred format.
  • Arrange and accompany participants on day trips.
  • Provide ongoing support to participants in a mentoring role.
  • Demonstrate assistive technology, including Voiceover and various apps for iPhone and iPad (instruction is provided).
  • Assist in the recruitment of volunteers for summer camps and coordinate volunteer orientation session as well as required materials.
  • Assist in providing supervision for individuals participating in programs as assigned.
Requirements
Who you are:
  • Good social media and computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Zoom.
  • Working knowledge of technical aids and devices for people with vision loss is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to travel independently within the region via public transit or car (taxi, Uber etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit community resources is an asset.
  • Demonstrates mature and sensitive nature when dealing with the needs of persons experiencing sight loss.
  • Must be able to work independently.
We want to hear from you if you have:
  • University or community college student preferred.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
  • Related Fields of Study include social services, health studies, child and youth studies, disability studies, administration, communications, technology, customer service.
  • Experience working with the general public.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.

This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, individuals must:
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment,

  • Ability for in-person/office work OR virtual as required by circumstance.
