Financial Controller

Part-time: Halifax


Covehead Bay Capital is seeking a hands-on, experienced finance professional to join our growing group of companies. We are looking for an ambitious, entrepreneurial individual to lead our financial operations and work closely with company Partners to make strategic financial decisions.

Covehead Bay Capital is a maritime company based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Partners have over 75 years of combined business experience leading successful companies. Our current investment portfolio consists of companies in Transportation, System Integration and Commercial Real Estate. The Opportunity

In this role, Covehead Bay Capital is looking for a motivated, team-oriented leader interested in rolling up their sleeves and getting involved in the company as it continues to grow. This is a part-time position, which may evolve into a full-time role over time.

The Controller will work with staff in each subsidiary and report directly to the Partners.While overseeing an accounting administrator and bookkeeper, the Controller will also manage all full-cycle accounting functions across the company. They will assist with financial forecasting and work with Partners to determine financing requirements for business transactions and acquisitions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and auditing as well as experience gathering, evaluating, presenting, and reporting financial information to the Partners.

As Financial Controller, You Will:

·Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external financial reporting related to the organization’s financial performance

·Oversee daily financial operations, including supporting the work of an accounting administrator/bookkeeper

·Provide oversight and hands-on support to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, HST reports, and bank reconciliations

·Develop robust budgets and financial forecasts with consideration of historical results and future assumptions

·Provide valuable insights to leadership to guide financial decisions

·Assist with financing requirements for to support business growth through transactions and acquisitions

·Ensure remittances are prepared accurately and in a timely manner, including payroll and HST

·Lead inter-company audits, ensuring effective resolution and swift closure of auditing activities

·Provide status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data

·Comply with federal, provincial, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management

·Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies

·Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential

·Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

What You Bring

·A minimum of 3-5 year’s accounting & financial experience

·A bachelor’s degree and CA/CPA or equivalent designation required

·Strong understanding of and ability to work with QuickBooks accounting software

·Demonstrated working experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

·Experience in a leadership position
