Our Head office based in Kingsville, ON is currently seeking a Controller to join our BerryWorld Finance team! The Controller is responsible for preparing and reporting financial performance results to meet internal and external financial reporting requirements, field inquiries and prepare periodic presentations of results. Assist the Director with preparation of financial plans, forecasts, budgets, and the maintenance of its fiscal records. The Controller has responsibility for ensuring effective financial controls. The position oversees the financial processing, reconciling and reporting for the company.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Have a vital role in the preparation of the annual budgeting process, including pre-budget analysis and research
• Assure a complete understanding of the accounting and legal ramifications of operating in international business environments
• Performs analysis on cost of business activities and recommends opportunities for cost savings
• Prepare and review the month end financial processing, for Mastronardi BerryWorld America, including reconciliation of accounts, preparation of supporting schedules, adjusting entries, variance and ratio analysis and financial statement review
• Develop and mentor a team of professional staff
• Identify key performance drivers (metrics) and opportunities that can be leveraged to improve the organization's profitability and create value for all stakeholders. Implement a process for tracking and measuring results both at the corporate and business unit level
• Participate in the annual external audit, tax preparation and be involved with periodic regulatory requests
• Develop processes within the Finance Department to provide timely financial reporting and analysis, operating/capital budgets and tax planning/compliance
• Ensure that adequate management controls are in place to protect the owner’s assets. As appropriate, design and document financial control policies and procedures
• Oversight and stewardship of spending to monitor spend levels versus budget with early identification of items out of budget scope and other trends at variance to budget
• Determines depreciation rates to apply to capitalized items and advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax revisions

Education/Background Requirements:

• CPA designation required
• Previous experience at an assistant controller level or relevant experience with a recognized accounting firm is preferable
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited University/college is required

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• Must possess excellent communication and presentation skills and be comfortable interacting with executive-level management, present information and direction, and field questions from managers, employees and external contacts
• Experience in the food and beverage industry is desirable
• Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Need to be creative, adaptable and able to accurately handle out-of-the-ordinary micro issues with a sense of urgency

• Use of company computer and phone
• Working conditions are normal for an office environment
• Ability to travel between Canada and the US periodically
