Reporting to the Continuous Improvement Superintendent, the Continuous Improvement Specialist will play a key role in implementing our Baffinland Operating System (BOS). They will use continuous improvement methodologies to identify, develop and implement improvement initiatives across all departments at Baffinland Iron Mines. The specialist will use data to develop operational insights. This information will then be communicated to senior management and leadership teams to support comprehensive decision-making, process changes, and cost saving initiatives.


  • The ability to effectively communicate business insights and realistic solutions (written and verbal).
  • Strong technical and analytical skill set, including ability to identify and manage data, execute quality control, build Excel models and draw correct business insights and implications (Statistical analysis).
  • Drive continuous improvement by conducting a thorough analysis of data and environment.
  • Working knowledge of operations management, finance, and business knowledge.
  • Proficient in leading problem sessions & business process mapping, (Fish bone, 5 Why`s, FMEA, etc).
  • Implement effective measurement tools associated with continuous improvement tracking.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, and confidentiality.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and/or Bachelor of commerce
  • 5-10 years of experience in mining, petroleum, manufacturing or any heavy industry
  • Lead and influence personnel at multiple levels to improve operational processes that ensure a safe work environment, maximize profitability, drive quality improvements and reduce operating costs.
  • Formal training in Lean Six Sigma Green Belt minimum certified, with proven track record of application
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ of Continuous Improvement experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to connect and work with all levels of employees and management.
  • Support improvement in existing processes including eliminating variation and non-value added work.
  • Train/coach/mentor other employees on the principles of Continuous Improvement.
  • Perform on-site implementation of CI project (SMED, 5S, SIPOC, Audit, BPM, etc).
  • Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor
  • Proven ability to organize and manage projects with positive results.
