Role Summary

Woodgrove Technologies Inc. has a job opening for a CAD Designer effective immediately. Location is in Toronto with the closest intersection being Sheppard and Allen Road. The successful candidate must be exceedingly experienced in the use of Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD Plant 3D. The successful candidate will be responsible for the production of detailed 3D models, Plant Layouts, General Assemblies, PIDs and 2D fabrication drawings of custom, steel, tanks for use in the mining industry. In addition, the candidate must be capable of modelling structural steel, walkways and handrails, lifting beams and general varied equipment as required. Candidates must be proficient in written and verbal communication in the English language. Experience with weld symbols and applicable codes and standards such as API, AWWA, ANSI, ASTM, etc. is an asset. Salary will correspond with level of experience.


Essential Responsibilities

-Understanding and awareness of the project specifications, scope, design, and schedule.

-Development of project 3D model(s) in Autodesk Inventor to be used for development of drawings.

-Development if PID`s using Autodesk Plant 3D

-Development of typical project drawings, including but not limited to:

  • Dimensional outline drawings
  • Erection assembly drawings
  • Anchor bolt layout drawings
  • Fabrication drawings
  • General arrangement drawings

-Reviewing project specific requirements (steel grades to be used, flange types, drawing specific requirements etc.) and generating drawings that meet all the project specifications and standards.

-Liaison with the Project Engineer on a regular basis to ensure all models and drawings meet current project requirements and aligns with any scope changes documented by the project engineer.

-Attend all project meetings (internal and external) on projects where the Cad designer is the lead Designer for the specific project.

-Fulfill the role of Lead CAD designer on a specific project when appointed as such by the CAD office manager. The Lead CAD designer is responsible for all resources, drawings, and reviews of CAD documents on their project.

-Assign CAD tasks to resources on a project where the CAD designer is appointed as Lead CAD designer on the project.

-Be familiar with the CAD Procedure and implementation thereof.

-Filling out CAD DWG Review Checklists for all drawings being sent for Review.

-Informing the Project engineer on the project of any concerns relating to the design or layout of equipment to be supplied.

-Development of R&D related drawings as needed.

-Ensuring all drawings are issued to the responsible Engineer/s in a timely fashion that will allow adequate time for review and revision if required.

-Address engineering and clients’ comments to drawings via revisions as required by the project defined timelines. Notify engineering that comments have been addressed.

-Keep and maintain standard and project files in Vault.

-Understand and stay up to date on the Company Standard Operating Procedures.

-Ensure that design drawings and 3D models are developed following WGT defined CAD Standards and SOPs and industry standard design practices and rules, so that work can be easily taken on by other designers at any point during the project.

- Exercise good judgement on details of work and adaptations of different design alternatives.
