The Department of Justice and Public Safety is dedicated to the rule of law, the promotion of the public interest, and the impartial administration of justice and works to improve the safety, security and resiliency of communities and citizens.
This is a new position within Court Services. The duties previously associated with the legal (lawyer) court administrators have been parceled into two positions with all legal work being retained by the legal officers. The successful candidate in this Clerk position will have administrative and managerial oversight responsibilities.
What You Will Do
As the Clerk of the Court of King's Bench, the successful candidate will be responsible for the administration of the court's registry in the respective judicial district. This entails reviewing all files related to court proceedings, assessing their validity and completeness, and accepting or rejecting them based on established criteria. The Clerk will provide guidance to court participants and stakeholders, support the judiciary, promote access to justice and maintain the integrity of legal proceedings. The Clerk will lead, direct, manage and coach the team of ASLs and Court Stenographers who support the effective and efficient operation of the Court of King's Bench.
The Clerk will also be responsible for overseeing and directing the scheduling of court matters, assessing the urgency of matters and ensuring the most efficient and effective use of resources and compliance with the Rules of Court and other relevant legislation, polices and bench directives of the Chief Justice. The Clerk will collaborate with the judiciary, lawyers and other participants to resolve complex scheduling issues that may arise.
The Clerk has a role to play during jury selection in cases of judge and jury criminal trials. In collaboration with the judge and Regional Sheriff, the Clerk will establish the number of people called as potential jurors for jury selections, is present for all stages of the selection process, culminating in the empaneling of the jury and the arraignment of the accused.

Need To Have (their Essential Skills And Qualifications)
  • A minimum of two (2) years of management/supervisory experience is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Arts or Public Administration, Law or related field, and five (5) years of related work experience.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English is required for Saint John and Fredericton. Written and spoken competence in English and French is required for the position in Moncton.

Wage
$2,378 - $3,322 biweekly depending on education and experience.
