Work Hours: Must be available to work 12-16 hours/week

The Cleaner ensures the safety of all members, property and self by following established Workplace Health and Safety practices and procedures. The position is responsible for performing all light duty cleaning, project and general cleaning, laundry duties and to keep cleaning and laundry equipment clean and in good repair all the time.
In this role, you will:
  • Clean washrooms including toilets, urinals, washbasins, vanities, replenishes toiletry, body soap, remove garbage from various areas and dispose into the bin.
  • Perform laundry related duties, including collection of used towels, loading and unloading of laundry machines, folding towels and replenishing towel at the service desks.
  • Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represent the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
  • Perform light duty cleaning like: dusting, sweeping and washing of floors, vacuuming of carpets and upholstery, cleaning lockers, counter tops, railings, mirrors, glazing and windows, cardio and strength equipment in conditioning room, Cyclefit room and free weight room.
  • Perform all light duty cleaning, project cleaning, general cleaning and keep cleaning equipment clean and in good repair all the time.
  • Ensure the safety of all participants, property and self by following established Workplace Health and Safety practices and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provide a high standard of customer service to all participants as per SAM standards and other guidelines set from time to time.
  • Understand the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
You bring:
  • Demonstrates and promotes a personal understanding of and appreciation for the mission, vision, strategic outcomes and values of the YMCA
  • Flexibility regarding assigned work schedule, including days, evenings and weekend
  • Cleaning experience in a commercial establishment
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers; excellent written communication skill
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
  • WHIMIS training an asset
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
