Job Summary:

Performs maintenance & repairs related to buildings, grounds, and equipment in one or more areas, such as electrical, plumbing, painting, and grounds-keeping.

Key Job Requirements:

• Establishes, monitors, and carries out preventative maintenance procedures and schedules for buildings, equipment, and grounds. Ensures building and equipment meet all safety, security and fire regulations and policies. Makes recommendations for major repairs and purchases to the manager.
• Monitors work performed by contractors prepares estimates of labour and material costs, contacts external contractors and tradespeople to obtain quotes and arranges for major repairs and maintenance work.
• Performs other related duties as required.
• Cleans external areas such as entranceways, sidewalks and parking lots using manual and power brooms, rakes, shovels, and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow and other refuse. May be required to perform other exterior building and property maintenance as needed.
• Completes and maintains related records such as maintenance logs.
• Performs carpentry, electrical, painting, mechanical and plumbing maintenance, and repairs such as repairing the furniture, constructing shelves, installing switches, replacing plugs and other basic repairs, applying paint and other finishes, repairing drywall, disassembling, and reassembling equipment, replacing sinks and toilets and any other such related tasks.
• Transports equipment, furniture and supplies manually and/or using aides such as dollies and carts. Operates a motor vehicle to pick up and move goods and supplies. Arranges furniture for special events.
• Collects and removes garbage and recyclable materials and ensures the safe disposal of hazardous waste.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

• High School plus related vocational training, such as a building maintenance course, would be an asset.
• Five (5) years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Working Conditions

• Tools, supplies and chemicals may contain hazardous materials and emit unpleasant odors.
• The plant environment can be dusty and noisy.
• Floors in the work area may be slippery during wet weather conditions, have cracks and be uneven.
• Work both in a production facility and office building.
• Requires extended periods of sitting and using the telephone.
• Passing forklifts emit gas fumes.
• Physically able to lift between 0 lbs. to 50 lbs.
• Doors are frequently open, causing drafts and interior temperature changes.
• Move around the plant, maneuver products, and gather information.
