Call for Volunteer Board Directors!
The mission of Rituals for Recovery (RFR) is strengthening communities and supporting recovery through trauma informed practices, training, and quality integrated care. We are committed to combating complex trauma and the stigma and suffering, that results from it.
A key part of our mission is to improve the health of our communities by investing in the physical, mental, and financial health of women and girls who have experienced gender-based violence and complex trauma. Help Her Recover is the arm of RFR which serves women living with the intersecting challenges of violence, abuse, poverty, mental illness, and addiction.
Our Board Directors are passionate about ending human suffering, contributing significantly to community health and overall quality of life. They are invested in providing accessible trauma informed relief services, interventions, programs, education, and training without compromising quality.
The Board of Directors is the legal authority for Rituals for Recovery and the division Help Her Recover Trauma Relief for the Community. As a member of the Board, a director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective and ethical governance of the organization.
Definition of Governance:
The processes, structures and organizational traditions that determine:
· how power is exercised
· how decisions are made
· how accountability is enacted
The Board Role and Governance of the Organization:
Planning Overall Direction: To establish the mission, values, and overall direction of the organization through strategic planning.
Policy Development: To ensure the formulation and implementation of governance policies to guide the actions of the organization.
Oversight & Monitoring: To provide oversight by monitoring legal compliance, financial stability & viability, quality, and performance as well as managing risk.
Performance Management: To ensure the health and sustainability of the organization through the performance management of the Board and of the President.
Awareness & Advocacy: To support the needs of the people served by the organization and validate the identity of the organization in the community.
More specifically, it provides the necessary leadership:
· In the oversight and approval of the strategic plan
· In the recruitment, development and evaluation of the Executive Director and future ED succession planning
· To ensure the highest quality of care in a safe environment
· To ensure there is an efficient and effective use of its resources.
· To proactively identify and manage risks and to ensure the appropriate controls are in place.
TERMS
· Board of Directors/Members will serve a two-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term, for a total of four consecutive years.
MEETINGS
· Meetings will be held on the third Thursday evening of each month from 5:30pm-7:30pm. Board meetings are held 9 times per year and committee meetings will be held quarterly in coordination with full board meetings.
· We do not meet in July, August or December.
· Board Directors are expected to attend a minimum of 7 (out of 9) board meetings per year. They are expected to read board materials in advance of board meetings and to come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions.
· The two newly appointed Board Directors will head up and lead the formation of the events committee to actively participate in committee work.
· Attending organizational training, orientation, scheduled board meetings, strategic planning sessions and community events.
· Committing time up to 10 hours per month as required to fulfill the responsibilities of a board member.

· Medical and clinical
General competencies required of our Board Directors include:
· Prior governance knowledge and not-for profit board experience
· Executive leadership
· Effective communication and collaboration
· Fundraising, campaign and event experience preferred.
Advocacy Professional
Rituals for Recovery seeks an experienced advocacy professional who has planned and implemented fundraising, advocacy strategies and campaigns to support an issue or cause. We seek a board leader to help cultivate the board’s leadership role in advocacy in support of staff as part of a broader commitment to increase awareness about the importance of our mission, influence public policy, and expand our reach. The ideal board candidate should have prior fundraising and not for profit experience or have received formal board training.
