We are seeking two Automation Programmers with good working knowledge of various building automation controls such as Tridium Niagara, Jace, Honeywell, Reliable, etc.Smart building integration involves integrating electrical and mechanical systems and connected devices to IT systems, IoT and analytics software.The ideal candidate is passionate about learning new technologies, thinks outside the box, and enjoys working with others.AEM provides and supports a collaborative and learning environment for technical mindsets alike and encourages employees to be innovative and creative.

Reporting directly to the Automation Manager, the Automation Programmer is responsible for understanding the process and technologies employed in building heating and cooling systems.The incumbent will be required to program, configure, commission, and service automation systems to properly control and monitor the equipment in these facilities.

Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Programming and Commissioning Automation Systems:

• Commission controls systems to ensure programming sequences are functioning as per specifications.
• Configure programmable logic controllers and networks such as BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus, etc.
• Perform project coordination as required on projects.
• Interpret detailed engineering drawings and specifications for systems and configure a logical sequence which will control HVAC systems safely and efficiently.
• Develop energy efficient control strategies to optimize system performance.
• Develop graphical user screens which will visualize the process for the operator.
• Program and configure various hardware such as controllers, VFD’s, routers, and gateways to create a logical control sequence of Smart Building Systems
• Provide technical support to field installation electricians.

Service:

• Support and assist service technicians with troubleshooting controls related to mechanical and electrical systems.
• Answer on-calls (on rotating basis) during off hours such as evenings and weekends to ensure customer issues are resolved in a timely manner.

System Integration:

• Deploy cloud connected solutions and implements Smart Building Analytics
• Perform data integration and migration from the operational technology networks to IT and IoT systems.
• Lay-out and configures cyber physical secure solutions for bridging various OT, IT, and IoT networks.
• Assist with system integration of other equipment manufacturer’s systems and networks such as BACnet, Tridium, OPC Server, Variable Speed Drives, Boilers, Recorders, Smart Transmitters, etc.
• Interpret control system schematics and other technical literature from various building electrical, mechanical, lighting, card access, CCTV and connected devices systems, and configure systems to integrate into a common platform.

Systems Diagnostics and Applications:

• Develop an understanding of the process and technologies involved in building heating and cooling systems and apply knowledge when performing system diagnosis, start up and commissioning, as well as developing solutions to remedy or improve the process.

Communication and Teamwork:

• Ensure consistent follow-up with customers on projects or service-related activities.
• Collaborate with other contractors and consultants effectively to ensure issues get resolved in a timely manner.
• Communicate effectively with customers and team members about current projects and any recommendations for repairs or improvements.

Qualifications & Experience

• Experience with Tridium Niagara 4 Framework is preferred.
• Good knowledge of DCS, PLC, HMI, System Integration are considered an asset.
• Good knowledge of HVAC controls.
• Ability to create and deliver effective presentations as well as train systems end-users.
• Proven ability to analyze and problem solve system issues.
• Able to provide full COVID-19 vaccination when required.
• Strong computer programming and networking skills.
• Demonstrate excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrate good communication skills, both written and oral.Fluency in more than one language is considered an asset.
• Post-secondary education in Electronics or Mechanical Engineering Technology coupled with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in programming and commissioning of HVAC controls systems.
• Successful completion of Engineering Technologist Certification or CET is considered an asset.
• Enjoys working with others and shows willingness to learn new skills and/or share technical knowledge.
• Willing and able to work overtime or on-call hours as required.
• Able to travel to job sites as required.
