Job Description
Your work days are brighter here.

At Workday, it all began with a conversation over breakfast. When our founders met at a sunny California diner, they came up with an idea to revolutionize the enterprise software market. And when we began to rise, one thing that really set us apart was our culture. A culture which was driven by our value of putting our people first. And ever since, the happiness, development, and contribution of every Workmate is central to who we are. Our Workmates believe a healthy employee-centric, collaborative culture is the essential mix of ingredients for success in business. That’s why we look after our people, communities and the planet while still being profitable. Feel encouraged to shine, however that manifests: you don’t need to hide who you are. You can feel the energy and the passion, it's what makes us unique. Inspired to make a brighter work day for all and transform with us to the next stage of our growth journey? Bring your brightest version of you and have a brighter work day here.

About The Team

You will join Team Space Kittens to help drive and build outstanding user experiences for the Journeys product. Workday Journeys enables organizations to build tailored, concierge-style experiences for employees to help guide them through the transitions and critical moments.

We are looking for inquisitive and passionate engineers who proudly contribute clean code and collaborate optimally with various team members. Quality is very important to you and you hold yourself and those around you accountable to deliver fully tested, quality code. We believe that the best user experiences combine engineering excellence, immersive UIs, and secure backend services.

The software you and your team delivers will have an impact on millions of people. Our customers include Amazon, Netflix, Patagonia, Sony, Toyota, and many more phenomenal companies around the world!

About The Role

This is an opportunity to join as a Sr Associate Software Development Engineer working on one of the newer products built within Workday on a team that values engineering excellence and aims to focus on sound architecture, quality and building the right things, the right way. As a newer product we frequently work with our customers, Product Manager, UX and design to determine solutions that will tackle the problems our customers face and find product market fit. Our business logic is built in the backend using Workday’s Xpresso framework with a React front-end that supports End user actions and an editor to create personalized content using HCM core data. We are going to expand into three scrum teams to enhance the Journeys product offering.

As part of Team Space Kitten you will:

  • Create and maintain robust, efficient and maintainable code using an OO framework and class modeling
  • Be excited about mentorship and welcome mentorship for yourself
  • Design and develop a product in a metadata-driven development environment
  • Bond with your teammates to build and embody a strong engineering culture
  • Be a strong advocate for the development process, engineering best practices, quality and culture of continuous improvement
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing within the team and wider organization
  • Be in the office at least 50% of the time to collaborate and create lasting relationships with your team and the wider organization

About You

Basic Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in Object oriented design and development in language such as Java or C# and UML modeling
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 1+ years of experience with Web application development or SaaS (Software as a Service)
  • 1+ years of experience writing reliable and maintainable unit and system tests
  • 1+ years experience building enterprise-level software with a focus on performance, scalability, and security

Other Qualifications

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and communicate across organizational boundaries
  • Experience in front end UI technologies like React is a plus
  • Experienced in working and collaborating with diverse teams in a dynamic, rapid growth environment using Scrum successfully
  • Experience with XML and Integration technologies is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to work smoothly with both technical and non-technical audiences

Our Approach to Flexible Work

With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.
