Job Description
Associate Director, Mental Health and Counselling (MHC)
Humber College is located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok [A-doe-bee-goke], the “Place of the Alders” in Michi Saagiig [Mi-Chee Saw-Geeg] language, the region is uniquely situated along the Humber River Watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe [Ah-nish-nah-bay], Haudenosaunee [Hoeden-no-shownee], and Wendat [Wine-Dot] peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all.
Humber College emphasizes hands-on, career-focused learning, offering a broad range of credentials including bachelor’s degrees, diplomas, certificates and postgraduate certificates. Humber seeks an outcomes-driven leader for the position of Associate Director, Mental Health and Counselling (MHC) . Humber is a place like no other. Here you will “Find Your Spot” and build a career and future that grows as the college grows. In this rich diverse workplace, Humber encourages diverse ideas, supporting everyone to find deep meaning and purpose in order that they may be proud of what they do and where they work.
About The Role
Reporting to the Director of Student Wellbeing, the Associate Director, Mental Health and Counselling (MHC) will be accountable to support the Director in the strategic leadership and operational management of all MHC programs and services, enabling the Student Wellbeing cluster team to facilitate conditions of wellbeing for all learners within the Humber College and University of Guelph-Humber community. This position will lead MHC to use inclusive, integrative, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed approaches in all aspects of client-care and employee management, centring employee engagement alongside client-centredness.
MHC’s services focus on college community mental health at Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber and play a vital role in the academic, personal, and career success of learners. The Associate Director will employ a participatory style of leadership to fortify a culture of caring and achieve cohesion throughout the MHC team and in all interactions across Student Wellbeing units: Health Centre, Accessible Learning Services, Wellness Education and Programs, and SWAC Services. This position will be responsible for effectively managing staff, policies, processes, and programs involved in the provision of MHC services. As the College lead on the National Mental Health Standard and in coordination with the GTA College Consortium, the Associate Director will help provide transformative strategic coordination to help achieve a future-ready service in a world changed by a racial reckoning, a mental health awakening, and a global pandemic.
