Location: Toronto ON Hourly

Wage: $18.00

Before applying, please confirm eligibility for employment in accordance with YCW criteria.

WHO WE ARE

Rise Up Feminist Digital Archive is an accessible online archive of feminist activism in Canada from the 1970s to the 1990s. The archive grew out of the growing interest in preserving the history of Canadian feminist initiatives to make them available to current and future generations. Since 2015, feminist scholars and activists have been working with libraries, archives, feminist organizations, community groups, labour unions and individuals to collect and digitalize original histories of feminist activism and make them available to new generations of activists and scholars. There continues to be an ongoing interest in this kind of research.

The historical records available at Rise Up, which focus on material from the 1970s to the 1990s, have proved an invaluable resource for assisting educators in their courses and for informing contemporary debates over the politics and practices, such as reproductive rights, daycare activism, the rights of Indigenous women, domestic violence, etc., all of which serve to effectively promote social justice, equity and respect for diversity and inclusiveness.

Rise Up Feminist Archive has several committees around which the work is organized:

• Website Maintenance and Development Committee maintains and upgrades the website and other technical requirements of the archive

• Archival Content Management receives, organizes, and digitizes material for uploading to the website.

• Outreach and Acquisitions Committee develops strategies and plans for the acquisition of new materials with a priority on materials from groups that have been historically underrepresented.

• Social Media/Newsletter Committee initiates and develops social media posts, writes and prepared newsletters to our members and writes or solicits articles for current publication in the newsletter (or on social media)

• Educational Resources Committee collects, reviews and uploads lesson plans drawn from the archive’s collection for inclusion on the website.

• Finances, Administration and Fundraising Committee keeps track of the finances and implements strategies to raise money for the Archive.

THE JOB

The Assistant Digital Archivist will directly support Rise Up’s priority to assist women’s organizations to preserve their histories and ensure archival materials are accessible through digitization and uploading to the Rise Up website.

Rise Up Feminist Archive’s Head Office is in central Toronto. Most activity and communication will take place remotely during the employment period.
