The Agriculture Assistant is responsible for supporting activities of The Company's Seed breeding program located in Leamington Ontario, including but not limited to seeding, transplanting, plot upkeep, field sampling/data collection, seed harvesting, hybrid crossing and other seasonal and general duties in the Leamington winter greenhouse.
Responsibilities

• Assist in seasonal operational tasks, such as seeding, transplanting, weed control, picking tomatoes for testing and seed data collection.
• Assist in tomato hybrid crossing in the greenhouse and field
• Assist in special projects, as needed.
• Report signs of insect or disease damage.
• Perform greenhouse crop upkeep task including pruning, clipping, and tying up of plants.
• Cleaning of Greenhouse and designated work area

Qualifications
HM's top 3 "must haves":

• Must have valid driver's license, as you may drive a company vehicle.
• Ability to analyze, solve problems, organize, communicate effectively, perform duties as requested and work as a team are required in this position.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Possesses a high level of detail and accuracy.
• Not afraid to get hands dirty (they are working in an Ag research operation)
• Quick learner with the ability to pick up a task and run with it
• Legally eligible to work in Canada.
• Prior agriculture experience.
• Proficient in utilizing a computer to complete various aspects of the job, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, i.e., Word, Excel, etc.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time under different weather conditions.
• Needs minimal supervision (given a task and can execute with little to no oversight - we're a small team).
