Position Summary


This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing team within the firm by playing a key role within our Real Estate Finance Team and our Advanced Self Storage Team (“Advanced”). In collaboration with the Controller of Advanced, you will work on various projects and initiatives in order to set this growing business up for future success and scalability.


Self-Storage is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. Advanced Self-Storage has 8 locations and is looking to grow the portfolio. Do you think you have what it takes to be a part of such an exciting growth opportunity?


As an Accountant, Advanced Self Storage Portfolio, your key accountabilities will involve:


Financial Accounting


  • Preparing bank entries and invoice processing.
  • Preparing cheque runs, setting up wires, & ACH payments.
  • Processing monthly management fee.
  • Recording bad debts, prepaids, accruals, cash in transit journal entries.
  • Journalizing mortgage debt servicing.
  • Payment/charge processing of monthly rents for commercial tenants, calculation of additional rent owed.


Reporting


  • Responsible for monthly variance analysis, including comparisons to budget, month over month changes.
  • Responsible for the tracking of capital expenditure projects.
  • Drafting of various ad-hoc reports as needed.
  • Preparing monthly management reports, downloading of supporting documents from storage software (SiteLink).
  • Support in gathering reporting for property appraisals.
  • Responsible for updating statements for commercial tenants.


Other Key Responsibilities


  • Credit card management, bank account/signatory management.
  • Perform reconciliation of location banking reports.
  • Work with the external auditors to facilitate accurate and timely audited financial statements.
  • Ownership of cash management duties, including cash flow projections, maintaining BAs, setting up transfers, etc.
  • Involvement in creation of annual budgets by performing historical analysis, as well as working with Controller and Management Team to create an accurate forecast of future revenues and expenses.
  • Communication and liaison with store teams on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for monthly bank reconciliation of CAD and USD accounts.
  • Lead/assist on various initiatives/reporting improvement projects.
  • Balance sheet reconciliation.
  • Prepare and remit monthly GST, quarterly PST, EHT, & WCB premiums.

As an Accountant, Advanced Self Storage Portfolio, your experience and qualifications will include:


  • You are legally eligible to work in Canada for any employer.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills with ability to create and maintain automated reports.
  • Qualified accountant (CPA or equivalent) or working towards CPA designation.
  • Bachelors Degree and 3+ years’ experience in a related field.
  • Bookkeeping knowledge and experience using accounting software, preferably Yardi.
