Job Description
Our client, the third largest producer of Canadian oil and natural gas and the second largest refiner and upgrader with extensive midstream and downstream infrastructure, has an immediate need for a Plant Operator. Reporting to the Coordinator, the Plant Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of facility equipment while actively adhering to the our client's policies, safety, operating rules, schedule agreements, attendance guidelines, and Government regulations. This is a contract position for six (6) months located at one of our client's norther camp sites, flying in and out from Calgary or Edmonton, AB.


This is a shift of 12hrs per day, 7 days on, 7 days off. Wednesday to Tuesday, rotating days, and nights.


Responsibilities


  • Conducts Handover Meeting with outgoing / incoming unit Plant Operator Approach & Behaviors:
  • Perform walkarounds, participate informal LOTO and HSE safety audits
  • Maintain and troubleshoot all area-specific equipment to optimize performance to meet production targets as per the facility guidelines
  • Execute housekeeping activities, document, and take corrective action as required
  • Operational rounds including electronic Log entry of operator actions taken during the shift
  • Executes business improvements by assessing opportunities and challenging the status quo in support of the asset’s overall operational targets
  • Support maintenance schedule by preparing equipment for planned work utilizing the LOTO procedure
  • Serves as a role model reflecting our client's attributes and core values and culture
  • Operate the Facility in a safe and effective manner, while working collaboratively as part of the team
  • Makes decisions that are in the best interest of the client
  • Creates an environment that fosters and supports multi‐disciplinary collaboration
  • Elevates issues, opportunities and risks to decision-makers as required to influence optimization and continuous improvement
  • Promotes innovation and “make it better” solutions
  • Champions and drives the health & wellness of our people in support of our client's safety, values, and culture
  • Perform condition monitoring including sampling and testing per area responsibilities, documented and act on results
  • Provide assistance, coaching, on-the-job training and assessments to new employees as required


Qualifications


  • Relevant experience in cyclic steam or SAGD thermal recovery heavy oil operations would be an asset
  • Strong technical skills to complement Power Engineering qualifications
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License (driver’s abstract required)
  • Minimum 1-year Operating experience
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Possess a 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate, with preference given to those holding a 3rd Class Certificate
  • Proficiency with computers is required (experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, SAP, and a field data capture system would be considered an asset)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
