Municipal Law Enforcement Officer Jobs

Knowledge and experience in dealing with By-Laws, Federal Laws and Acts;

Grade 12 education or equivalent;

3 years’ experience in Municipal or Law Enforcement, Policing or related field;

Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite;

Good verbal and written communication skills including concise report writing

Post-secondary Diploma or Certification in a related field;

Considerable knowledge of account collection methods, procedures, and regulations.

Considerable knowledge of the animal summons process, procedures, policies, and regulations.

Knowledge of provincial laws and regulations that pertain to businesses.

Knowledge of enforcement practices including evidence gathering, document submission and attendance at court.

Collects delinquent licence/permit fees through various account collection methods.

Review and approve licence issuance including accepting payments and issuing identification cards

Strong client-service, organization and time-management skills.

1 to 3 years of relevant functional experience.

1 or more years of experience in a unionized environment an asset.

Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

Strong Communication, analytical and customer service skills.

Maintains carriage of Small Claims Court and other administrative law files, seeking the guidance of Legal Counsel when required.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Assist clients in negotiating, drafting, and closing corporate and commercial agreements, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in municipal law, with a focus on litigation, prosecutions, and expropriation.

Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to mentor and supervise junior lawyers and support staff.

Experience with the AMANDA document management system will be considered an asset.

Must have over three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in building construction or building maintenance.

Must have working knowledge of structures, electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Must have experience in a computerized office environment and be familiar with the Microsoft Office Suite of Products.

Work related experience, preferably in Municipal Law Enforcement will be considered an asset.

Membership and Certification with the Ontario Association of Property Standards Officers, or working towards certification will be considered an asset.

Attend specialized enforcement training and obtain related certifications (i.e., Noise, Building Code etc) as required.

Over one (1) year, up to and including two (2) years of related by-law enforcement experience.

Sound knowledge of Municipal Act & Planning Act and Provincial Offences Act.

Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.

Work independently and collectively with other by-law enforcement officers to ensure residents, businesses, visitors comply with municipal by-laws.

Respond to complaints, take pro-active action on by-law violations and participate in division wide, seasonal and priority enforcement initiatives.

Municipal Law Enforcement Officer certification

3-5 years working experience in related disciplines preferred

Experience with Microsoft Office programs and appropriate City software.

Deliver by-law specific information to the public, City staff, elected officials, industry specific members and other law enforcement staff.

Investigate complaints, collect evidence and perform follow-up investigations to ensure ongoing compliance.

Perform detailed inspections, maintaining accurate and detailed records/logs, databases of inspections.
