Liaises with families, volunteers and staff to discuss special dietary requirements and allergy alerts.

Performs reception duties such as answering the telephone, receiving/relaying messages, taking messages, answering routine inquiries or referring calls as appropriate.

Books emergency cases, completes related paperwork and notifies appropriate department, physicians, anaesthetists and staff, as directed.

Performs various related clerical duties such as retrieving daily, monthly and quarterly slates, maintaining/updating manual and computerized records, and compiling statistics.

Orients new staff and students to unit by demonstrating procedures, answering questions, and explaining unit organization and layout.

Performs clerical duties such as typing, filing and photocopying.

Performs other related duties as required.

Performs admitting/discharge/transfer duties by obtaining/confirming registration information, registering patient in the appropriate system and completing registration documentation.

Answers telephones, transfers calls, takes messages, answers routine inquiries or referring as appropriate; opens and distributes mail as required.

Maintains records on relief staff such as names, address, contact phone number, availability for work, suitable work area and hours worked.

Performs other related duties as required.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to deal with others effectively.

To administer skilled nursing for all ages in their place of residence.

Comply with applicable legal requirements, company standards, policies and procedures.

Prepares and escorts patients to examination rooms within the clinic.

Assists in orientation of new staff to the unit.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Transcribes physicians orders by copying information, completing required forms and/or entering information into the computer and distributing as required.

One (1) year of recent, related experience or an equivalent of education, training and experience

Graduation from an approved Nursing Unit Clerk program

Working knowledge of medical terminology
