Health Unit Clerk Jobs

Previous related work experience preferred.

Complete high school education, Manitoba standards.

Successful completion of a recognized Unit Clerk training program required.

Typing/keyboarding skills minimum 40 wpm required.

Ability to organize, manage time and prioritize workload.

Preference will be given to candidates competent in an Aboriginal language and/or knowledgeable in Aboriginal customs, beliefs, and practices.

Grade XII plus one year related experience OR graduate of a recognized one year secretarial/business program

General office skills an asset

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Demonstrates problem solving and decision making skills

Demonstrated ability to remain calm during an emergency and deal with numerous interruptions and continuous change an asset

Competencies in other languages are an asset, French preferred

Grade 12 plus one-year clerical experience or one year post-secondary business program

Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

Demonstrated knowledge of STAR, PHS and Time Capture preferred

Experience working on a Medical or Mental Health Unit preferred

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Demonstrated organizational, communication, and conflict resolution skills required

Maintains spreadsheets and provides standard reports and charts for managers.

Organizes, manages and distribution of PPE for Staff.

Manages booking of meeting rooms.

Must be able to manage stressful work situations with dexterity.

Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point etc.).

Liaises with internal departments and external healthcare facilities to book/cancel tests, appointments, internal patient transfer, external patient transport/escort, etc, as required.

Transcribes and enters physician orders including medication, lab and imaging orders into appropriate system.

Enters data including appointment requests, menu/diet requests, patient transfer and discharge documentation.

Notifies appropriate personnel of patient movement, test results, appointments and other patient information in a timely and accurate manner.

Ensures patient charts are sent to Health Records with all accurate and required patient information.

Updates WHMIS/MDS binders/information sheets as required.

Prioritizes processes, coordinates and transcribes physician's orders and performs necessary follow up action, as required.

Collaborates with other acute departments and other care areas to exchange information related to clinic patient appointments.

Prepares and escorts patients to examination rooms within the clinic.

Assists in orientation of new staff to the unit.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Transcribes physicians orders by copying information, completing required forms and/or entering information into the computer and distributing as required.

Orients new staff and students to unit by demonstrating procedures, answering questions and explaining unit organization and layout.

Performs clerical duties such as typing, filing and photocopying.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Ability to deal effectively with others.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Computer keyboarding skills of 30 wpm

Previous experience in an ambulatory clinic and or in-patient care setting

Ability to perform physically demanding tasks e.g. pushing carts with patient charts

Minimum of two years recent pediatric experience required.

Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program required.

Nursing care knowledge related to clinical area.

Proven accurate keyboarding of net minimum 40 words per minute OR 106 keystrokes per minute.

Proven ability to work with sensitivity and compassion with oncology patient population and their family/support people.

Adherence to professional ethics principles, to the Network management philosophy and organization values;

One (1) year recent directly related experience;

Practical knowledge of information technology;

Proven ability to organize and manage the assigned workload;
