Overview Continuing Care Assistants (CCAs) provide support to individuals with physical and/or mental health needs in a variety of settings, including residential care homes, hospitals, and community-based settings. They work with clients to help them maintain their independence and quality of life. Detailed Job Description Continuing Care Assistants provide a range of services to clients, including personal care, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming; assistance with activities of daily living, such as meal preparation, shopping, and housekeeping; and providing companionship and emotional support. They may also provide transportation to medical appointments and other activities. CCAs may also be responsible for administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and providing basic nursing care. Job Skills Required Continuing Care Assistants must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. They must be compassionate and patient, and have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. They must also be able to follow instructions and adhere to safety protocols. Job Qualifications Most employers require Continuing Care Assistants to have a high school diploma or equivalent. Some employers may require additional qualifications, such as a certificate or diploma in a related field, such as health care or social services. Job Knowledge Continuing Care Assistants must have a basic understanding of medical terminology and the ability to recognize signs and symptoms of illness and injury. They must also be familiar with the principles of infection control and safety protocols. Job Experience Most employers require Continuing Care Assistants to have at least one year of experience in a related field.
