Overview:

Barge Operators are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of barges, which are large, flat-bottomed vessels used to transport goods and materials over water. They are responsible for loading and unloading cargo, navigating the vessel, and ensuring the safety of the crew and passengers. They must also be knowledgeable of the laws and regulations governing the operation of barges.

How To Become an Barge Operator:

To become a Barge Operator, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license. You must also have experience in the maritime industry, such as working as a deckhand or mate on a barge. Additionally, you must be certified by the U.S. Coast Guard as a Barge Operator.
