Associate Electrical Engineer – Protection Applications Jobs

Advise the Discipline manager on project staffing requirements.

Manage designs and deliverables of other designers, reviewing their engineering designs for accuracy, quality, and compliance.

Previous experience in Transmission and distribution, power generation, consulting engineering fields, and renewables/sustainable industries.

Carry out with the assigned team, all engineering and design works of electrical power Transmission and Distribution.

Perform protective relay calculations, fault studies, and coordination for up to 500kV substations and transmission lines.

Create protective relay settings for the protection and monitoring of transmission lines, distribution feeders, transformer banks, capacitor banks, and station buses.

Excellent knowledge of modern digital protective relays in utility applications and experience calculating relay settings.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a wide variety of issues on multiple projects simultaneously.

Working knowledge of MathCAD, Microsoft Office, Aspen Oneliner and CAPE.

Technical knowledge and understanding of electric transmission system operation, maintenance, performance, power equipment and substation design.

Competent in basic computer skills to include Microstation, Autocad, Trane Software and Microsoft Office products

Good Knowledge of relevant legislations, standards, regulations, guides and good practise (CSA, ANSI, IEC and IEEE standards.)

Excellent knowledge of modern digital protective relays in utility applications and experience calculating relay settings.

Support T&D Electrical regulatory compliance in the protection area as per requirement of governing regulatory agencies.

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related engineering discipline

Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Support our reliability improvement plan and processes related to protection system and reinforce a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.

Execute protection coordination and system studies to solve potential mis-coordination in the electrical system and ensure protection operation selectivity.

You will work out of our Base Plant site in Fort McMurray, Alberta

Knowledge of the main protection schemes and philosophies encountered in Transmission, Distribution and Renewable Collector Substations.

Knowledge of IEC 61850 GOOSE (Generic Object-Oriented Substation Event), MMS (Manufacturing Message Specification), SV (Sample Value) and its implementation.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

Develop and evaluate plans for major projects.

Assess feasibility or soundness of proposed applications when data is insufficient, or testing is advisable.
